This week's Friday Update is a new developer blog by Star Wars: The Old Republic writer Joanna Berry, describing what went into crafting the story of the Jedi Consular.
Read a short excerpt below:
“For me, the challenge – and the fun – of writing the Jedi Consular is keeping a sense of balance between intelligence and arrogance, between what’s right and what could win the war against the Empire. A Jedi Consular must sometimes accept the grayer path, the less perfect choice. He or she must make the decisions the Republic can’t, in order to save it.”

First of all, I'd like to say, awesome article. It really gives a broad insight into the motivation and purpose of a Consular, but I doubt it's really gonna sway too many people from the Jedi Knights or Sith Warriors. I mean, everyone loves the force, but more people prefer slicing metal and flesh with a glowbat to this Sci-Fi remoddeling of magic. Mainly because it's a lot more up close and personal. But yup, looking forward as ever to playing a Consular as one of my many alts. :D
I am going to avoid the jedi/Sith warrior class from the jump specifically because a ton of people WILL roll that class. I am going to pick another class to make myself more desirable to groups. You may see 5000 Jedi warriors LFG X, but I won't be because I will be scooped up right away as a different class... but who knows. The jedi/sith warriors may be more of tanks and be highly sought after as well.
i honestly don't care about Jedi my first character will have to answer the question
"What is Nala"
Nala is my main toon in every MMO
A ex soldier gone hero who specilies in hand to hand combat, and has exceptional strength and stamina
The stuff about treading the thin line between light and dark makes me wonder if they might introduce some kind of system that allows jedi to switch sides at some point in the story. We've seen jedi fall to the dark side and sith redeem themselves and return to the light several times in the series, would be great if players had an opportunity to that too.
i'm sure it is already in place, in the sith Warrior video they did we saw (and they comented on) light and dark force points for dialoige choices.

Ah cool, thanks. I haven't really spent a lot of time following this one yet, kinda waiting for more details so I don't accidentally hype myself up or anything. :)

I would really enjoy it if say, like with Fable, as you gain dark points your eyes turn red as well as your general appearance changes.

It has already been established that when TOR is launched, their will be no changing factions (IE a Jedi Knight will not be able to join the Sith) It might happen later but come launch it will not be possible.
That is not saying you cannot be a Jedi and go to the dark side, but you will still serve the Republic.
They've already said that you can go dark side or light side just like in KOTOR.
Considering the ridiculous amount of dialogue required for variables like that.... idk man.
Would be cool though.
