APB: Reloaded News - Delayed to Q3 2010

Posted by Michael Bitton on Feb 08, 2010  | 33 comments in our forums

According to Electronic Arts' investors report, Realtime Worlds' cops-n-robbers themed MMOG, All Points Bulletin, will not be making its Q1 2010 release date. Instead, EA's report lists APB in EA's Q2 2011 fiscal year, or Q3 2010.

While this news is certainly unfortunate for those of us out there looking forward to the game, delays are all too common in the MMOG genre.

[Thanks Fanita for the tip!]

Q3 2010 runs from 7/1/10-9/30/10. So, barring any more delays, look for it before 9/30/2010 at the latest.

This all implies EA actually has any idea what they are talking about, generally speaking they do not. I'd wait for official word from Real Time Worlds as their scheduled release was last stated to be Spring 2010. In any case, the game shows promise and I always love seeing delays, having payed for enough unfinished games, I take delays as good news rather then bad.

Given that EA is their publisher, I'd say there is a pretty good chance they are keen on what is going on. ;)

EA is clueless when they are the publisher and developer. But maybe that is just my opinion.

Everyone is speculating, but I'll speculate for the positive.  I applaud the delay if its for finishing purposed since we've experienced half-assed launches in form of PotBS, WAR, AoC, Star Trek Online.

I'd much rather see a delay for the good of launchable game completion and fuller depth and breadth of game-play then go for the money-grab, as many developers and publishers are getting a bad reputation for.

Maybe you don't understand what publisher means. The game can be done and ready to go, but it'll sit on the shelf for years if EA says so.

EA can't really be "clueless" here, because the game doesn't see the light of day until they sign off on it. If they say it's delayed, it's delayed.

Woah I am confused... I thought Q1 of 2011 (fiscal year) is Q4 of 2010 (regular calender Qs). So wouldn't that mean Q2 2011 fiscal year mean Q1 2011 regular calender Qs.

whelp....never mind then....between my utter disappointment in Champions Online, this new delay in APB, and no new info on DCU Online, and god knows what-all (except for the recent teaser trailers ) concerning The Secret World, none of the new properties I was considering/ looking forward to for this year are on the horizon any time soon...

i starting to wonder if i should bother following this industry at all...

perhaps i'll stop doing it....qqqq

That what happens when you focus too much on character creation (Cloths, tatoos, pimp vehicles etc) and then start working on a music program and forget that it's a MMOFPS.....

Not trying to start a fire here, but I think the hype might kill this game.

This is a title I've had my eye on for a while so I can't say I'm not disappointed to see it's further from release. Still, I feel this may be for the better.

Also, after what happened to WAR (depending on how you one may see it, though without all circumstances considered) wouldn't there be even more of an outcry if the release came sooner than expected, especially in the hands of EA given their infamous track record in dealing with MMOs? I won't hold my breath, but maybe they're turning a new leaf? *Shrug* Who knows what other factors may have led to this decision but again, maybe letting this one cook for a while longer will turn out to be a wise move.

Funny how everyone expects a 'more polished' product with each delay - money is on it's delayed purely as it's not finished and not ready for release or even a public beta with chunks of the game missing.

Not nesserally meaning the game's devs are bad, seeing as it's under the EA banner it's more then likely possible that they got dumped with a few bits of 'homework' for a certain set of other EA products for a little cash injection into their product afterwards (ie they've been 'bribed' along withwhats left of Mythic to work on Starwars).

What are you even talking about?  Your entire post doesn't make sense.  First off, the so called "team up" with EA was very recent.  The game has been in development for years which means EA played a very little part in the development.  Second off what has Star Wars got to do with EA?  As far as I'm aware they've got absolutely nothing to do with each other.

You do realize that most EA partnerships are strictly on a publisher basis right?  You do realize that all these smaller companies under the EA name are not part of one mass EA development team, right?

That's unexpected.  They were well on their way to a finished game so... I can only conclude that the delay can only mean serious polish and more features.

Perhaps mission diversity as well... more missions, more diverse.  That would definitely help the game.  It'll be great fun with friends :)

I was looking forward to this one too. Why does it always seem like "that next great game that i'll play forever" is always months and months away lol. Then they come out and they are only just okay. Lately they've been flat out disappointing. Maybe this game will be different. Then again, i've said that with so many games. It seems single player games and co-op games are on the rise while MMOs are getting crappy.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I wasn't comparing the two games directly. I was referring to the fact that EA had supposedly rushed WAR to release as soon as it came into the picture.

I think there is a lot of confusion here. EA's investor release states that their first quarter ends march 31st which means anything after that is the second quarter or later. In the northern hemisphere spring is march/april/may which means if they launch in april/may they are not delaying at all and it fits the EA investor report.

funny the link in this post leads to a spread sheet from EA and in it it says" First quarter fiscal year 2011 expectations- ending June 30, 2010" that doesnt mesh with your saying their fiscal Q2 starts April 1st ?

First Quarter Fiscal Year 2011 Expectations - Ending June 30, 2010

Fourth Quarter Fiscal Year 2010 Expectations - Ending March 31, 2010

Uhh yeah, seems I mis-read something somewhere. I'm going back over the information and can't find where I found the info before. Also the post by Deum says the financial year begins in April which I mistook as saying the second quarter began in april. My appologies, you are correct and my post is completely wrong.

Deum has been doing Q&A's every Wednesday over at APB Evolved.

apb-evolved.com/

In today's he mentions the release again, but no date or time frame.

"As for the release date, RTW have never given a solid release date out. Anything you see at retail stores or online is, again, simply speculation. We originally anticipated a release of Q1/Spring 2010, which is probably a little off, but again, keep a look out for a formal announcement."
