Face of Mankind News - Open Beta Begins December 5th!

Posted by Michael Bitton on Dec 03, 2009  | 10 comments in our forums

The Open Beta start date for Face of Mankind has been announced today on the official Face of Mankind forums.

Duplex Systems' Managing Director cautions that while the game may not be perfectly balanced, or contain all the features that Closed Beta testers were eager to see, that the game would never be able to attain "perfection" without widespread testing, and so the game will be open for testing to anyone interested come Saturday, December 5th 2009.

"Most things" will be wiped in the transition from closed to open beta, though the faction leader structure will remain in place to ensure a smoother transition.

A new comprehensive tutorial will also make its debut with the beginning of the open beta program. Which, according to Duplex Systems, is encouraged even for those of you who played Face of Mankind in its previous incarnation due to the myriad changes the game has undergone since then.

So basically this new "open beta" will be just like the released game was the 2 (?) years until it was shut down: unbalanced and missing features.

Good luck with that. LOL

I remember playing this game back in 2006 (I think it was) and having quite a bit of fun. I recall writing my police exam on a military ship for my promotion and passing with 100%. However, after awhile I realized that the game was just a chat room with guns. There wasn't any leveling up or skills involved with character progression other than your weekly wage and job title. Gun fights were also kinda messed up. For example loading a whole clip into the back of a guy's head and he was still alive (this wasn't rubber bullets either). The *fun* factor the game was based upon relied heavily on the community events and drama. Soon after that the game went from open beta to commercial release and I heard the game went down hill from there. If anyone has played this game back in the day or today (closed beta) I definitely would like to know what was the main reason this game didn't succeed or how the game has changed since then (recent closed beta).

about 4-5 years too late.

This game will be dated technology wise before it even gets a good footing.  Not to sound mean but its  true.  I thought  you guys owuld at least change the engine.

I played the beta 5 years ago, and found the game interesting and different, although it did have it's flaws and the combat wasn't really true "fps", which is what I really preferred.....

However, I have played it some recently, and the "full PVP" aspect KILLED the game for me...

To be specific, long-term, higher-level veterans just wait and kill brand new players as they spwn, without any regulation or control at all...Now, I can't speak for everyone, but veterans murdering new players before they can even look around themselves and get oriented, or even become aware of how to move or any of the controls is a game-killer for me...

It's much the same situation that Asheron's Call had in the Darktide PVP server, where level 50+ players just stand around the new spawn point and kill the new players as they are born...For, I feel, many people, it ruins any chance that the game may have had to attract the new players...It's frustrating and angering, and pretty much ends any interest I might have developed for the game...

I DO play mostly PVP games...But the PVP has to have some control so as to allow people to actually become able to survive and compete to hold most people long enough for them to learn to play...and FoM doesn't do that now.

That's because you don't know how to play...

And there's not much chance they will LEARN how to play if they're killed as soon as they spawn as new characters, now, is there?

Yeah , I remember the noob killing was sad.

I mean the moment I entered  , I died.

No movement , no looking around bah.

There should at least be a few safe areas , especially the newbie spawn...
