World of Warcraft News - Brewfest!

Posted by Jon Wood on Sep 21, 2009  | 13 comments in our forums

MMORPG.com World of Warcraft Correspondent Kristi Studts writes this look at the WoW event known as Brewfest.

It's that time of year again. Leaves begin to change in Elywnn forest from emerald greens to the burnt autumn colors that signify the beginning of a month full of achievements just waiting for us in World of Warcraft.

One of the most fun achievement sets in Warcraft has to be Brewfest. Patterned after the old German celebration of Ocktoberfest, weeklong celebration makes for one helluva party. If you're looking for something to do during Brewfest, you've come to the right place. With drinking, eating and partying, it's going to be hard to tear me away from WoW this week. Brewfest begins September 20th and runs through October 4th so the week gives you plenty of time to complete the achievements.

Celebrated by both Horde and Alliance, Brewfest is set up as a competition between breweries. Bringing casks and kegs full of the best brews, the Ogres and Dwarves battle for suds supremacy. Adventurers are invited to tip their mugs to the exotic brewers until they are dizzy with delight.

Brewfest is the best holiday in WoW and the most fun.    This years is really taking off.    On our sever the brewfest area can get so packed with players it is almost elbow to elbow.    ^_^    By the way got my Brewfest mount on the first try on the first day this year.   :)    Still haven't gotten it on my other toon yet.   But here is hoping.

I'm just glad to see that this game still generates buzz... with something that's seemingly so minuscule as a WoW holiday.

Apparently as great as these events are every one seems to be over looking the facts that these events were introduced and supported by players long before WotLK or Burning Crusade.  I have noticed as of late Blizzard are finally letting us lock our toons at certain levels but now instead of letting us still enjoy playing our lower levels, their seeming endless line of not caring about players has taken over and we are forced to keep leveling or buying expansions since now, they are making all these events seem to have level requirements that can only be obtained by buying an expansion or not locking your experience.  I just do not understand why a company such as blizzard has to continually steal the old content like these world events or old instances like Naxx and in 3.3 Onyxia, and in the upcoming expansion Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep to use as content and charge people for it when they should be able to create something new for content.

Blizzard really need to stop ripping people off by reusing old content and armor sets, and get creative, I mean I feel their pain their real talent in development has left their employment, but that is no excuse for not being able to provide new content in their  game or even new level achievements in this system.

So far this holiday has been pretty crappy due to all the bugs.  So far I have run into dailies not resetting, being unable to hit anything during chug n' toss/Dark Iron invasion, and have heard of people having tokens disappear.  And the much is almost as annoying as the Argent Tournament music.  The Experience buff will be nice if it stacks with the heirloom items.

Hopefully Blizzard will fix the bugs or at least decrease the amount of tokens you need for the meta items.

so giving all players regardless if they buy the cata expansion all new 1-60 revamped content, new talent trees, guilds leveling, new hunter and warlock resource system not generous then I dont know what you want.

Brewfeast is an annual event that players of all levels can take part in in some way or another. Heroics are end game content, and do you expect to take on ony @ lvl 3?

few players want to keep there toon @ a fixed level, blizzard have to cater to the majority not the minority.

Are you playing WoW?? If you did, you would know that the player base at large are ecstatic that Blizzard has decided to reuse some of the old content...especially upgrading their old favorite instances.

Upgrading the holidays are the only sensible way to go...why shouldn't it be. I seriously doubt most people worry about the holidays if they stop...most likely an alt anyway...at a lower level. In any case...each holiday has things to do for all levels.

I'm not usually the one to defend Blizz, as I have grown very, very tired of WoW, and has left the game, but this is only something the (rather big) WoW community has asked for...

Yes there has been a lot of bugs. The drops off the boss in BRD have sucked, my group of peeps has done it for two days now and we have seen the same drops and no mount at all. The drops can't be sold nor can they be DE so they are useless if no one can use them.

Sadly a few in trade have been ripped from the mount by ninja's when they were lucky enough to see it drop.

You would think that out of a good 24 times on the boss that at least one or two mounts would drop. But know that is not the case. Let me guess it is somehow gonna hurt the economy if too many mounts drop!

Obtaining needed coins for the Achievments is going to be hard pressed as well since you don't have many dailies for them and with the bug issues some probably won't get them everyday.  So yea it can be fun  event but as usual there are some unfun drawbacks to it. Oh and if you fail to kill the boss the toon that started the quest has lost out for the day. There is no trying again that day. Which IMO sucks but guess there is some grand reason why this is done also.

Bit of an update. It seems lag and bugs have only gotten worse.

Last night trade chat was full of peeps with the same problems. Servers were supposed to have rolling restarts so lets see if that improves the issues of what should be a fun event.

The patch yesterday fixed the chug and toss / Dark Iron Dwarves.   Hopefully the rolling restarts will have fixed the lag many servers were experiencing.   All in all, it hsa still been a good Brewfest.    :)

Yes it seems the lag has cleared and bugs are not what they were. Hopefully the remainder of Brewfest will be much better than the start.
