Final Fantasy XI News - Warrior Overivew

Posted by Jon Wood on Oct 10, 2008  | 11 comments in our forums

MMORPG.com Final Fantasy XI Correspondent Wesley Bond writes this class overview for the Warrior in the MMORPG installment of Square Enix's massively popular Final Fantasy franchise.

The Warriors in Final Fantasy XI are the masters of all things melee. If sharp and shiny objects are your thing, then you’re in luck as the Warrior class is for you. Warriors are the ultimate men at arms, as they have access to almost all of the weapons and armor the game has to offer. The job can fill two roles in a party as tank or as a damage dealer. It’s one of my jobs of choice, especially for leveling to thirty for the first time as it allows you the versatility for party or solo play early on. Warrior is a basic class, meaning you can play it from the get go. It’s also a great job to have if you want to pre-level a weapon skill before you unlock a particular class. Warrior is a common sub job for many melee and tank jobs to boot. Chances are good, if you see the front lines, you will become familiar with the job at some point in time.

Out of curiosity, why are we covering a class that was included at launch in FFXI years ago? It seems strange.

it's not that we're reporting it as "news" it's that we're adding mroe game-specific featureslike thi that will remain in our archive so that when poeple want to know more about a game, new or old, they can reference the info.

also...i doubt i'm the only one who isn't interested in playing any of the recently released titles. so getting more info on titles released in the relative past is interesting and helpful in the search for something to try out.

To be honest I enjoyed this game for a long time.  If you're into true PvP, then this is not the game for you, but if you enjoy complete emersion into a fantasy world and PvE, this is an amazing game.  The storylines and sub-storylines are fun enriched and the quests that are involved and entertaining...for an older game it's still a HOOT...yes I said a HOOT...LOL!!!  If you choose to play it enjoy...it's the game that got me hooked on MMO's ;-).

I'm a huge fan of the game and saw that the FFXI section was a little light on articles.  I thought I'd do a limited job guide for new players, returning players or others possibly looking to play the game.  I will do other pieces on updates, exploration and even the economy of the game later down the road but for now I want to build  a nice reference section for players interested in the title.  I'm sure my articles might not appeal to everyone's tastes and that's cool.  I write for fun and in my spare time for nothing but the love of the game and video games in general.  I'm always glad you've stopped by to read the articles I've written and post your thoughts.  Good or bad the more eyeballs the better.  I look forward to serving you more in the near future.  Good Hunting Fellow Gamers!

Warrior and Red Mage were my two favorite classes in FFXI. If only the game wasn't so time consuming, I'd probably still be playing it. I tried giving it a go again last year, but I couldn't keep up. It still takes so very long to get a group with certain classes.

Back on topic, this is a very well written overview of the warrior class. Gave me a sense of nostalgia. Back when I was playing full time about 3 or 4 years ago, a NIN and I were main tanks for Sky raids. I always loved the versatility of the warrior class. I could sub NIN and deal decent damage while being able to tank with Utsu: Ichi/Ni, or sub THF and put a GAXE on and deal a ton of damage doing darkness skillchains with my friend MNK.

FFXI is still, to date, one of the most immersive MMOs I have ever played. Unfortunately for me I haven't the time to immerse myself in a world like this one anymore.

I thank you for writing this, though. Brought back a lot of good memories. New or old matters little to me, please keep doing what you're doing as there are people out there who want to read what you have to say.

Well for those who are worried about not being able to get a party right away...you can always level sync down to other players who are lower than you. Heres bit of information about that.
