The folks at Funcom have published a new dev journal which gives players a look at some of the new culturally themed armor in Age of Conan.
Developer Dave Williams provides us with a couple of nice screenshots as well as background information about some of the new Culture Armors which will be introduced to Age of Conan very soon.
From A Treatise on Niello
Long before the rise of countries which today are scattered across the continent, there was commerce between the ancient nations of Stygia and Acheron. Trade brought discovery, as goods traveled the span of the known world – and elements native to the far-flung reaches of the civilized kingdoms were first mingled in forges and workshops to form hybrid metals that exhibited the best properties of each ingredient.
Many such alloys were forged by the master sages of that era, who deduced the specific proportions necessary, and likewise the methods of construction. Niello, that black metal described centuries later as the Scales of Set, was purportedly used in the secret rites and rituals of the Dark Lord's many adherents in this age and the last. I cannot attest to the veracity of this notion, but I will remind the reader that in every legend lies some thread that can be traced back to its birth, and ultimately to some hidden truth.

Right where Funcom should have focused at first...
PvE is strong in AoC compared to say...WAR, etc...and they should have made sure to had a strong showing out the gate before flubbing around with PvP.
This is an awesome idea, and can't wait to be buying these or making them...
Sonds really interesting. Hope to see it soon in the game.
Yet another thing that was brought up DURING BETA that should have been in release.
Funcom is a joke. Warrhammer is kicking their ass and they don't know what to do.
Warhammer is kicking ass...
So many players
Are quite enamored
Because PvE rocks
And the game keeps peoples interest
Need more examples of how the 30 day placebo effect is going?
Kicking ass.
Please stay on topic...thanks
Stay on topic. And the game kicking AoCs ass is Wow FOI, and it will probably kick WARs ass too when the expansion comes.
Besides WAR got a few promised things we havn't seen yet too, like 4 citys.
It is good that they are getting things together, the cultural armours I seen looks awesome.

lol, a bunch of blogs from random losers.
Looks nice, still can I have PANTS for my male character please? Or at least the choice.
as opposed to the posts from focused losers that we have here.
/chuckle
I'm wiling to bet I am more successful in my life than you can dream to be. Regardless of that, War just hit 750,000 registered accounts.
We'll see where that is in a month, however, we both know AoC will still be far, far below. Enjoy your niche game -- you and the 10 other people.
LOL! amen! enough w/ the cross dressing guys! Im guessing this is a major cause of pop imbalance between dest and order!
I so enjoy ePenis comments from post-pubescents such as this ... *NOT*!
The single major advantage of Age of Conan's closed beta release and loss of 60%-75% of their game subscriptions is that we've been lucky enough to lose such undesireables who have gone back to WoW
(yes, WoW, since the majority of them won't last in WAR, either).
Anyway, back on topic.
Having left AoC when the closed beta servers were shut down one month after the game's release and refusing to pay FunCom to continue to test their closed beta product, I, like many MMO hobbyists, are waiting for FunCom to bring Age of Conan to release quality.
This will still take a few months or more, but we're encouraged that the new game director, Craig Morrison and his team are on the right track and, slowly but surely, they are systematically making progress to that end.
Oh, release quality is coming. This small sliver of is but a tiny facet of planned new content, quoting R.E. Howard's lore to announce some new armors that will be introduced into the game soon.
While it is too bad that Age of Conan, on May 20, 2008 only delivered a small fraction of what was promised in the FunCom hype, I'm comfortable with standing back while keeping busy with alpha/closed beta tests for a couple games as well as two major retail expansions (the latter due for retail release by Thanksgiving).
When Mr. Morrison & Co. realizes Age of Conan's promise, I'll be back.
Keep dreaming, chump.
AoC is dead.
Hold that thought. Keeps you and others like you on stay away mode which is working as intended!

Everyone who has a clue has left. Only the idiots that continue to think, "no, it will be fixed in THIS patch" stay.

Woosh. LOL
Read it again.
If rereading this thread doesn't get through, then you must read it one more time, 'K?
I stopped playing AoC when closed beta servers closed down in June.
Like many, I am waiting for AoC to reach release quality to pay to play AoC.
AoC will achieve release quality allbeit with a lot less players. Active subscriptions, when AoC gets polished to release quality (estimates are December 2008 - January 2009), will be about 100K, and sould stabilize between 100,000-125,000.
