It's not so much what's being said as the people saying it. Calling somebody's creation 'clown vomit' is extremely unprofessional, and could very easily drive somebody (a paying customer) away from the game. If these were comments by another player, then I'd agree with those who state that the recipients of said comments should grow a thicker skin. But from people representing a major corporation? Inexcusable.

If somebody in almost any other industry told a customer something they created looked like clown vomit, that person would be immediately handed a box, told to put his / her personal belongings in it, and escorted from the building. Period.

God forbid we expect people who represent a company to display a little bit of tact and professionalism in their critique. "I think the use of color here is quite haphazard" would've gotten the point across just fine without being deliberately offensive and unprofessional.

The most pathetic comments are from "dexella". Not only her voice, which makes the screeching of a cray on a blackboard sound nice and musical, is the reason I don't watch the live streams anymore (along with me wanting to slap her each time she opens her mouth to say something totally stupid, girlish and irrelevant, interrupting the intelligent things and interesting information the devs were saying), but she herself admitted that she sucks at building anything.

At least when people like Rosie or Dave comment, you know they are capable of creating great stuff in game themself. But to dexella, I want to say this: "only people who do nothing take zero risk of failing".

Playing now: Archeage, WoW, Landmark, GW2

Top 3 MMORPGs played: UO, AC1 and WoW

Honorable mentions: AO, LotRO and GW2.

Why did they feel this was appropriate to list them making fun of entries? Such disgrace and Below are some of them. Also you can read what players had to say about it and are still voicing opinions on it, of course no one from SOE wants to talk about it . https://forums.station.sony.com/landmark/index.php?threads/almost-post-mortem-on-the-landmarks-of-landmark-contest.39411/

You found this offensive? you have certainly got a thin skin.

It's been said here before but why should there be no negative views from the panel to judge entries, and so what if it's been made public, I see nothing wrong with this at all.

You can have your opinion of her, I would like to offer mine. I like Dexella.  She is well spoken, intelligent and real.  She does not put on an act like other CMs in other games.  She is down to earth, and caring in her responses.  In the live streams I see her keeping the devs on track.  So she admits she cannot build professionally, most of us playing the game cannot either :)  We still enjoy it for what it is.  To each their own.

It's bad customer service plain and simple. It's why I refuse to play SOE games - they feel they can disrespect the customer with impunity.  Perhaps these comments would not have offended you. OK. Are some people 'thin skinned'? Absolutely. That doesn't lessen or miitigate the crass lack of professionalism.

I don't support companies that act in an arrogant and unprofessional manner. Too many organizations vying for my money and I vote with my wallet.

I agree with OP - shameful display.

If I were the CEO I'd fire all of them - no questions asked, this kind of behavior towards customers is simply uncalled for.

I agree, well put.

I agree too.

The fact is these players have paid money for this Free to Play game, then put hard work into creating their buildings and such. The least SoE could do is not insult their work, if they hadn't paid for the game, then it wouldn't be so degrading. It'll also probably prevent the players to submit anything else.

I expected more from Sony.

Considering your signature, the opposite would be surprising, wouldn't it?

I generally don't like women as community managers because you always have that girlish crap coming back, inevitably. Omeed bob head, "Oh, is that a giant baby bottle", etc... we waste minutes over stuff like that in a live stream that is already very long (1+ hours) instead of focusing on the real stuff.

I have known one woman who was a fantastic community manager, it was Meghan "Patience" Jenks for Lord of the Rings Online.

Sorry if I don't find cookie jokes and the other girlish crap funny. I've nothing against the person herself, it's just very annoying to me. And when she's insulting the community she's supposed to take care off, it's the straw that breaks the camel's back.

It's all good when they're the ones telling the designers how much their work sucks.

However, the designers get the chance to throw a little of it back... just a tiny bit... and bam. The tears of righteous indignation start flowing like Niagara Falls.

And this is only over a single entry. The people who create these games have that kind of crap - and far worse - slung at them every day.

It was thoroughly enjoyable for me to read those remarks. I thought some of them were hysterical.

To the people crying because some fun was poked at their contributions... I'm sure you'll get over it, but you might want to stay out of game development. Because if one snarky comment from someone about something you created is enough to set ya off... Well...

To those who took it in stride and good humor... Good on ya.

Wait wat....    I'm confused, are they disappointed it didn't have a huge Horsecock hanging off it?  Musta been a closet Brony

It sets a bad precedent in any case.  I'm all for people toughening up when it comes to their "Art".  Anyone who's been drawing or building stuff for more than a few years needs to face the fact that their shitty Sonic recolor OC's and Mincraft castles made of monochromes aren't fuckin' cutting it.  Either GET GOOD, or stop posting to the main public repositories of DeviantArt/Tumblr/ect.

BUT, you don't just trash EVERYONE.  Younger people who are on their first attempts are extremely vulnerable to bad feedback or even to no feedback at all.  They need encouragement or atleast just their 'E' for effort until they can get to those later make or break points.  Bad Form SOE....  we expect this kinda retardedness from loudmouths like Smed, TRay, and Higby.  But c'mon, I expect a lot "nicer" from their Hugbox Autism cash-in Devs on this Landmark thingy.

That's not actually accurate.  It's never the Critics and Hecklers who enter fan events like these.  It's usually little kids, and their most friendly & ambitious fans  or even the goddamned kool-aid drinkers (white knights).  Though I'm sure there's just as many white knights everywhere including here who didn't even make anything b/c they don't ever want to face this kind of scrutiny in the first place.   So what that means is that SOE's basically pissing off their true-believers and core demographic  while everyone else  who never trusted them to begin with is going "TOLD YA SO".  ....and everyone here of course too because Internet = Hate Machine

We can argue Political Correctness and Societal Coddling till we're blue in the faces.  But at the end of the day this was just a poorly executed Marketing stunt showing that SOE hasn't really changed one bit.

Keeping it professional is important, but having thick skin is as well.  If you don't like what was said, then don't play SOE games plain and simple.  Contrary to what a lot of ignorant people like to say, you do not have the right to not be offended, but you do have a very legitimate right to vote with your wallet.

Wait, so a guy posts on twitter what the judges were saying in a private chat between themselves? This is an actual thing now, getting mad at what people say in private? There are other issues far more important than what is said in private, regarding contest entries into a GAME.

Considering no one knows who's entry they were talking about, the comments are pretty meaningless. If they were posting pictures of entries and making fun of them... I might be agreeing with the OP. People need to just get over it and go back to playing video games, that's why we are all here right? Because we play games?!

An old topic, but the OP has a point.  There's a difference between criticism and disparagement.

It's even worse coming from the developers, and judges, themselves.

It's ironic, that most of the people in this thread, are the same people that tell others on this website to provide constructive criticism, yet, it doesn't apply here.
