Common sense isn't

OP  1/11/14 7:14:16 PM#1

Hey guys after playing Hearthstone for quite awhile I decided to buy some packs because I wanted to get more serious in the ranked scene and needed the cards to do so. Considering you pay $52 to get 40 packs it is pretty expensive and I believe you should get more than what you currently do. I recorded myself opening up the 40 packs and go through a lot of the cards so let me know what you think, whether you watch the vids or have purchased cards yourself?

Dude the whole tcg idea is a real disease,it tries to get enormous amounts of money out of players that are hyped into the competitive scene.

I played these type games for years since MTG started,i suggest you get out now before you sink too much money into it and regret it in the long run.

It is not worth it. The game in its current state is a failure waiting to happen. People will rush out to get it at release, dump a bunch of money into it, and then realize how incredibly boring and unbalanced it is. After about two weeks in beta I stopped playing it much, after a month I uninstalled it and haven't looked back. This sentiment is not only me either. The official forums are full of people talking about the numerous issues with the game, it almost always comes back to replay value.

If you enjoy the game and think you'll be playing it (competitively or casually), then go for it.

Also don't take the official forums seriously, especially for any Blizzard game. Lots of whiners and nay-sayers there who hate on Blizzard just for being, well, Blizzard. Doubly so because of the competitive nature of the game; usually those who squeal the loudest are those who simply suck at it, but project their own shortcomings onto perceived faults or issues with gameplay balance. Now, that's not saying there aren't issues, or that some of them don't have decent points and / or legitimate gripes, but any game's official forum needs to be taken with a large dose of salt.

The game has had HUGE success in beta, and all indications are that it will be around for a long time to come. I don't like it or any CCG really (too much luck involved, no matter what people say), but more power to those who do.

Not worth it imo. Farming arenas is the way to go. If u get some experience in how to build solid arena decks, you are going to end up with endless gold and a lot of golden cards and packs from arena rewards.

Been playing for 2 months and i only bought 1 arena entry with real money so far. Now im sitting at 1.5k gold and have almost every card in the game. Not to mention my 7k dust.

Been playing this game for about 2 months now. While I do thoroughly enjoy the game, it does have its short comings.

At the top ends of the arena and ranked ladder, everyone pretty much runs the same decks and plays the same way. The difference between an 8 win arena deck and a 12 win arena deck is virtually non-existant.

At the top level games are won by 80% luck, 15% hero balance issues, and 5% skill. I just don't really ever see this game picking up in the mainstream with such a small skill component.

Game is definitely fun tho.

That being said, I wouldn't buy cards. It seems like assets for a game that will only have a few month life cycle.

As the poster afterwards mentioned. The game seems to come down to luck.

I just tried arena with a mage. Got offered two spells in my picks. They both came in the same pick. So I get one spell with a mage.

You need to get 7 wins to be able to continue playing arenas.

How am I supposed to get 7 wins with 1 spell as a mage? It's hard to get one with one spell. Compare that to another run with a mage where you get 3 flamestrikes, 2 polys, 2 fireballs and 2 frostbolts. That's before factoring in legendaries.

The game is fun but it is definitely a grind if you don't put any money into it.

That's understandable as the game is F2P. However if you have lots of money and want to progress in ranked play. Spending some money to get decks is totally understandable.

The game was fun for the first few days. However it's just as stale as Constructed Block Magic The Gathering with only one set like what is currently with Theros Block Constructed. The draft portion is the only real fun part of the game as of yet, but when you are sitting there after 2 weeks with 2 of every card and can make any constructed deck you want, it gets kind of boring.

I'll revisit it when they introduce a new set of cards or game modes, it is F2P afterall so their motivation should be to get players like me coming back for new content.

Agree with most posts here, it's an alright game and quite polished, but very VERY casual. which seems to be the blizzard norm these days. So if you want something with depth, this is not the game. imho it's a game you play if you wan't a quick few minutes of entertainment (couldn't see myself playing this more than an hour). Would even go as far as saying it's something your 10yr sister could pick up an enjoy.

As for buying packs? if you don't want to get stomped by players that bought the biggest packs and have all the cards (not sure why this should be possible) then i would suggest doing it, but overall it's not really worth it.

Great post by a great Blizzard hater.

A pity the masses won't listen...

Expect 100 million players at the end of this year with Blizzard rolling 40 ton money trucks to their banks every day.

That's what you get when making fun casual games on PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android tablets and smart phones.

There isn't even remotely a casual game coming close to this thing on all these platforms.

100 million times 20 dollars: 2 billion dollars and counting, GTA and COD will run for 2nd place.

Am I serious? Well actually 100 million is a too low number with 1.4 billion platforms installed.

Yep, the existent games on these mobile platforms are so aweful and amateurish, Blizzard is given a free 8 track highway with this one.

WoW's revenue will look like peanuts as of now.

Time to become a premium Blizzard hater. A pity no one will care.

There is only one hope: servers will explode, but the spread out introductions will probably avoid D3 like launching problems.

AND a Blizzard game AND a free to play AND a Collectable Card game AND 8 minute sessions on the internet ?

Bobby Kotick will be pleased.

I don't think there was this much whining during the D3 release.  At least 75% of the posts are complaints about bugs, or it's poorly designed game mechanics.   Sadly, this looks to be a bigger catastrophe than D3.
