  • VR Support is All Systems Go, SteamVR a Priority

    Frontier Development has responded to a question about whether or not Oculus Rift will be supported as a VR device for Elite: Dangerous. According to the reply, SteamVR is currently the only unit supported by Frontier, though it is still in talks with Oculus about Rift support. According to reports, however, E:D devs stopped working with Rift builds after v0.6.

  • Aiming for the Stratosphere with 1.4M Units Sold

    Frontier Developments has announced that 1.4M units of Elite: Dangerous have been sold across PC/Mac/XBox One platforms. In addition, the team revealed that the average play time for each player is about sixty hours, an amazing 84M player hours so far in the game's life.

  • 2016 Horizons Updates Detailed

    The latest Elite: Dangerous newsletter has been sent out and gives players a bit of a peek at some of the forthcoming additions to the Horizons expansions throughout 2016. Players will be able to add much more details to the look of their Commander through the Creator Tool. In the future, large ships will also be able to function something like an aircraft carrier with the ability to launch short-range fighters to take part in space battles.

    The latest Elite: Dangerous newsletter has gone out and contains some exciting news for players as progress on Close Quarters Combat (CQC) is entering the fourth beta phase that is expected to go live today.   • Horizons Expansion Announced

    A new expansion to Elite: Dangerous is on the way according to a new announcement out of Gamescom today. Called "Horizons", portions of the expansion will be released episodically with the first portion called "Planetary Landings" which is expected to launch later in 2015.     The next Elite: Dangerous update has been named and described. Called "Powerplay", v1.3 will bring a new gameplay feature into the game. Players will be able to align with one of three intergalactic powers in an effort to dominate and control space. Once aligned, players will be able to help accomplish group goals, earn reputation and to advance the shared cause.

    In an unexpected move this week, Frontier released Elite: Dangerout on Steam. New players can grab a copy for $59.99 with existing players able to add Elite: Dangerous to the Steam Library through the "non-Steam game" option.
