If you can afford to gamble away your money, thats your choice, but, maybe you should have listened to your wife

The only luck I had today was to have you as my opponent.

As long as your Wife agree's with you then, you should be fine. Personally i will be waiting until the games release before buying, i am way past the stage of where i am prepared to pay to beta, and my wife isn't that understanding either

Well she agrees. She knew how geek i am from the day we started our relationship. I did preorder games in the past and most of them actually were failures (i quit them 2 weeks after head-starts). I am pretty certain of this one though. :)

Lucky!

Honestly, it is a game i will be buying, of that i have absolutely no doubt whatsoever, its just i am no longer buying 'beta' games, and i am patient enough that i am willing to wait for the game to release as a finished version before i do buy it. One of the issues with Beta versions after all, is their usually unfinished state, and the possibility of burning out on an unfinished game that might spoil my gaming experience when it is eventually released as a finished product. But i have owned/played every single Elite game that came out, and i don't think the next one will change that

Welcome Commander.

Frontier made a quick start guide that may be worth perusing - http://www.elitedangerous.com/about/guide/

There's also an early WIP manual available - http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18465&highlight=sidewinder
