I plan on using the Saitek x52 Flight Controls for Elite Dangerous.  If the game supports rudder pedals then I'll use Saitek's combat rudder pedals too.

Here's the thing... is the game still going to require regular use of the keyboard (other than for chat)?  My desk is really crammed and to use the flight stick I have to push the keyboard into an out the way spot.  So for me to use both would be a hassle.

From what I hear the X52 can do pretty much everything with the odd lesser used function like turn on ship searchlight relegated to the keyboard. Certainly combat will be wholly Hotas based.

I plan to get the X52 Pro (although not pedals) for E:D

My guess is that if you have a HOTAS with lots of buttons and top hat like the X52 you won't need to use the keyboard at all for flight. They are making the game for HOTAS as well as mouse+keyboard and you often see the devs use X52s in videos playing the game, so I don't think you need to worry. Chatting without a keyboard handy should prove painful, though.

Or chatting with a Rift covering your eyes :)

Good to know.

BTW... the X55 is coming out in April.  So you may want to look into that if don't already own the X52.

I'm not too worried about chatting.  I plan on being an explorer searching solar systems thousands of light years from Earth.  Chances are I'll never run into another player.  If I do, I'll just have to kill them instead of talking.
