Is there more to the game than just running around killing and ganking people, or is it just another big ffa arena like darkfall or mortal online? Hopefully someone in the alpha who has played already can shed some information as to what you actually do. I feel like every game who is trying the ultima online style, failed miserably because they did not incorporate RP elements into the game as well.

I agree. Darkfall's biggest failure IMO was not having much more to do besides pvp. I like pvp and all but I'm playing an MMO. I would like there to be customization and professions and variety.

Right this is how I feel, too. While I love pvp, I also love other features too.

PvP is indeed a big portion of the game. The game is centered on crafting and PvP. The majority of the time I've had in alpha I've actually spent crafting. I'd either be gathering resources to produce new weapons and armor, or gathering resources to produce buildings on our guilds territory. It is actually a lot of fun!

As far as PvP goes, I did have a few run ins with another guild today. This guild, about 5 or 6 players, was running around the zone and PK'ing people coming into the zone or gathering resources. The cool thing about it is, that when someone attacks someone else that isn't flagged for PvP, they become flagged and immediately get a 25% debuff to all of their stats. Not only that but the PK'ers location shows up on the map with a red dot, so you know to stay away from that area or to go to that area to fight.

So basically about 5 of us from the guild I belong to confronted this other guild on numerous occasions. We had some pretty decent exchanges, and ultimately we ended up killing all of them several times. Got some pretty good loot too! The game rewards those that are peaceful, or in our case trying to keep the peace. We didn't get the flagged PvP debuff because we attacked players that were already flagged themselves. We had an advantage I guess you could say!

So basically right now the game comes down to open world pvp (which has been pretty darn fun so far), territory control and GvG combat, crafting (armor, weapons, guild/territory builds), and PvE. There is PvE in the game. There are caves/dungeons that have quite a bit of mobs in them. It isn't terribly exciting so far because these mobs are low level and can also be found in the open world. The devs do have plans to make dungeon bosses, but they haven't made it to this alpha yet.

Another aspect of the game I find really cool is that the in game economy is literally governed by the players. Everything in the game is gathered and crafted by players.

That's all for now, I'll probably start a thread here in the next day or two, to let everyone in on what's going on in alpha. I'll probably discuss the things I like and dislike, which so far isn't that much, as well as planned content that will be put into the future alphas and betas.

My name in game is MAC5494, hit me up if you want to hang out in game! Sign up for future alphas if you haven't already!

That's actually one of the things i've mentioned in my forum feedback posts. The game does seem a bit shallow in regards to character diversity. At this point it's not like UO in the sense where you can become a butcher or fisher and just make a living doing that. However, it's important to remember that this is alpha and the potential this game has is through the roof. Let's see what this small team of devs can do. So far very impressive.

Fallen Earth and other games do this as well.   It is actually the way all crafting in games should be done.

No gear drops!

Money or mats only  with a little item decay mixed in and,  suddenly you have an economy.

FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!

As far as RP elements goes, it appears they will be adding professions such as fishing, farming, taming, etc, in the future which will definitely make the game more dynamic!

In my 150+ hours, i think i only 'pked' 1 person, killed a few pkers, and got 'pked' maybe twice. Its got that awkward moment when two people bump into each other in a PvP map and both want left alone.

While its very balanced in that there are no levels (i think all of my fame unlocked an extra 4-5% hp compared to a brand new player) the lack of character flavor is a big issue for me.

Hi guys,

we are currently implementing some more possibilities to customize who you are and what you do. We just added finally the human female model and more races will follow.

Also the possibilities to specialise into certain areas will become more and more. The Destiny Board will be a way to do that (it was not very balanced last test and is still far from perfect). And ofc we will add more and more items to the game. So you will be able to get your crafter or hunter gear and much more ...

But it just takes time and don't forget we are in a very early alpha stage.

Kind regards,

Stefan
