Latest Headlines for EverQuest Next

  • Of Sony and Skynet

A year ago, or just about, I sat in a large banquet hall in Las Vegas as Dave Georgeson outlined the next big project for Sony Online Entertainment. The speech centered on a list of "Holy Grails" in MMO development, and how their EverQuest Next team would be reaching to achieve those lofty benchmarks.

  • Say Hello to the Cleric, Elementalist, and Tempest

It's been a while since we've heard much from SOE on EverQuest Next. Much of the past year has been about Landmark, the building and creative cousin of EverQuest Next. For months, EQN fans have been asking "when are you going to work on EverQuest Next?" What Dave Georgeson told us on Wednesday was that they have been working on Next the whole time... and it's called Landmark. Read on to find out just what he meant...

  • Wishing on an SOE Live Star

What I'm hoping will come out in SOE Live is partly a rehash of my earlier E3 wishlist. That said, with slightly more information available now, this SOE LIve wishlist is going to get some validation very shortly after publication. Will I get anything right this time?

  • New eBook, 'From Ash Comes Fire', Released

Sony Online Entertainment has announced the release of a new novella based on EverQuest Next. Penned by R.T. Kaelin, the book is titled "From Ash Comes Fire" and takes place after the Dragon Wars, a time in EQN's history chronicled in earlier eBooks.

  • Reminder - Beta Sign Ups Active In Case You Missed It

Sony Online Entertainment has activated a beta registration reminder for EverQuest Next via the game's Facebook page. This leads to speculation that we will find out much more about the title during next month's SOE Live. EverQuest Next has been largely shrouded in mystery since its announcement and been overshadowed by its compatriot, Landmark.

  • Dark Elf Style Guide

In anticipation of SOE's online social building game Landmark, the publisher released a diagram of its stylistic guidelines regarding Dark Elf culture on its EQ Next Facebook page. Located in the Landmark forums, the image indicates the Dark Elves' large-sale penchant for angularity and pointy things.

  • Round Table - Which EQ Characters Should Appear?

In the Everquest Next Round Table #40, developers ask players which EQ characters they'd like to see in EQN and offer their takes on the question.

  • The Hypothetical E3 Wishlist

With little information on Everquest Next available at present and the fact that SOE's Everquest Next/Landmark team is at E3 itself, there is a small chance we may see some Everquest Next-related news or updates tacked onto Landmark showpieces on E3. To wit, I'd like to list down three things I would like to see or hear from SOE upon the team's return from E3.

  • Some Old Favorite Nemeses to Return

The latest EverQuest Next Roundtable video has been published. This time, the team reveals which nemeses from former EverQuest titles will reappear in EverQuest Next. Omeed Dariani is joined by Bill Trost to discuss who players can expect to find in the newest adventures in the EverQuest franchise.

  • Round Table Previews SOE Live 2014

Omeed Dariani and Terry Michaels have taken to the airwaves to answer the question posed to the EverQuest Next community recently about what they would like to see at SOE Live 2014. The short answer is "panels" with specific regard to EQN. Check out the video to find out more details!

  • The Lore of EQN

The latest video Developer Diary for EverQuest Next and Landmark has been released. In the new video, the team discusses how lore of the earlier series titles are being brought into the newer games. It's an interesting look at how lore is crafted. Give it a viewing and let us know what you think!

  • The Franchise at 15

Nothing says, "Everquest is awesome!" quite like a picture of Omeed Dariani riding the 1970s Batmobile. Everquest has come a long (really long) way since Omeed and his Batmobiling ways. In one sense, this is because Omeed now has his very own Everquest Live loveseat, and also because Everquest has grown in its own way over time, culminating in the development of Everquest Next Landmark and Everquest Next.

  • All SOE Titles, Including EQN/EQNL Part of All-Access Pass

According to an updated version of the Sony All Access Pass FAQ, all Sony Online Entertainment titles, including both EverQuest Next and EverQuest Next: Landmark, will be part of the "one subscription, all games" model that will be put into place in April.

  • A Community Building Everything

Despite my best efforts, I find myself to be a horrible builder. I can craft wonderful ideas in my head, describe them with epic scale in an essay, but end up making balls of dirt on my claim. Luckily, the February 18 Everquest Next Round Table Response gave me hope that I can actually play the game in a way that seems to make sense to me as someone who's horrible at free-form creation: getting other people to help me!

  • Smedley, the Sandbox, and Online Society

I was planning on writing an article relating to what I've been able to do in the game, but a recent blog post by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) president John Smedley just made me throw out my plans and focus on it. Smedley discussed SOE's vision of the sandbox, and why the sandbox model of MMORPGs is looking like the way forward for the industry. It's a great look at why Everquest Next made a shift in its development cycle to become a sandbox MMORPG (or two).

  • Landmark Alpha Specs and EQNext Grouping

Aside from an update to the Everquest Next: Landmark alpha requirements, one of the other notable discussion topics this week was the weekly Roundtable, where Omeed Dariani and Jeff Butler discuss how grouping and individual contributions might work within Everquest Next.

  • Large Folk Discussed in Latest Roundtable

The latest EverQuest Next Roundtable has been published that spends its time discussing players' favorite large race. In addition to the discussion, Omeed Dariani and Rosie Rappaport show off some pretty spectacular concept art that the EQN team has whipped up to show off the large folk. Check it out and let us know what large race you're most thankful for in the comments.
