"Spray paint the world" - Rerak. Quote regarding the waste of time of AOE DPS without kills.

OP  3/29/13 5:13:56 PM#1

I have been chatting with a few people regarding this game and would like to know about some of the guilds who plan to back the KS event/launch.  I know people are interested in teaming up with or tagging along with people who are looking to make a sizeable contribution.  I am sure some of us can make a bigger impact as a member of a team.  Let's get a  feel for who is out there.

Please post in some consistent format.  Maybe, use the following template if you would like.

Guild Name:

Guild Website:

Guild GM/Leadership:

How many current members:

Pledge goal (guild):

Recruiting (Yes/No):

Current Game(s):

Misc:

Thanks,

Since I have not seen anyone post about this topic, let me be the first to say if you are interested in forming a 'backers/founders guild'. I will take it upon myself to spearhead it as purely a figure head at this point in time.  I know the level of contribution I intend to put forward and I think it would be a lot of fun to have more people all contributing to unlock 'guild tier' rewards for a group of people.

If you are interested PM me and we can begin to discuss backing this project as a team of people and maybe unlock some fun items both in game and physical for all of us.  Guild name and such can be discussed if it matters (more than likely it will be a shell name just to all donate from the same team).

I do have a ventrilo server.  Mutliple web domains and such, but doubt it would need to get to this stage of the game until WAY closer to the alpha and beta dates.  As mentioned, this would be more of a unique way to back the project as a team.

Opinions?

I've been watching this thread to see if any guilds stepped forward who were thinking about this, so I could pick through and see if any were recruiting.

Since none appear to be, I'll happily volunteer to form something up with you for this. Would love to see some other solo people or small groups of friends who wouldn't mind forming a guild to contribute with as well. Have seen some fantastic posts from some really cool people.

I imagine the primary reason people are not willing to team up with random strangers to accomplish this is due to the amount of money involved. I try to be optimistic and trusting, but I am not sure how comfortable I would be with one person I do not know, or barely know, having control of a $10,000 tier I chipped, say, $1,000 into.

Regardless, good luck!

It'd be kinda neat if CSE let you register a guild, and add people to it, on their site. Then, post-kickstarter, could determine the cumulative guild contribution. That would remove any concerns about money changing hands outside of KS or some concerns about privacy and how much an individual contributed (only KS and CSE would be able to make the correlation).

The obvious limitation is that there is some development effort for the guild registration system and no guarantee the kickstarter would be funded. I could see hesitation to implement something like that until after the kickstarter. I imagine It would contribute to "guild pride" though which seems inline with the great "realm pride" that has been discussed. Another way for a group of people to feel connected/invested.

edit: my suggestion is based on knowing absolutely nothing about how KS funds reach the dev. If they act as a proxy and hand over one big payment and no info on backers, then I imagine it'd be a difficult task to correlate backers and guilds. That said, backer rewards have to be delivered, so my assumption is that some information goes back and forth between KS and CSE.

Not sure if there is time to put this together before Kickstarter but really like the idea.

To be honest, I was thinking about how to manage this myself. I already thought about founding a new guild for CU this early, but regarding the pledging together I see a couple of problems.

1) You have to choose your realm now or everyone has to be flexible enough later on

2) Which tier should you pledge for? Depends on the guild tiers, because if those don´t offer enough sharing or something, people might get a lot less than they would have by pledging alone. A big guild tier, maybe the biggest?, comes at 1.700$ already.

For example - I´m willing to throw in 500$-750$ and of course the single rewards for myself and my main account I want to keep. Doesn´t make sense to only donate 250$ in a group effort.

Having a guild island would be awesome. But do enough copies and gimmicks come for everyone donating for this?

I don´t see the trust issue that much. I could fx. take on the lead on that and would provide private adress etc for those pledging together. But, does it make sense for everyone to do so?

I´m willing to discuss this of course and if someone has a solution for the problems - I might be willing to joining, even lead such a "project" :)

Hopefully MJ will take a peek around here and notice this thread. For me it isn't an issue of trust. I imagine that a Guild Tier level of contributiion to KickStarter could be implemented in such a way that when you donate, you have the option of making your donation not only contribute personally, but contribute towards a specific 'Guild'.

It isn't a trust issue for me, simply a logistics issue. Either way, if someone wants to do the legwork this weekend I'll help out and I'm in, and I'm not going to be too choosy about my Realm.

For me its less about the realm than about the people I get to play with.

Regardin legwork. What do you think would be necessary right now. Im interested here :-) Maybe I shoul setup a forum for us and we could redirect interested people there.

Ok, I thought about this a bit during the last couple of hours and I figured it doesn´t make sense to take this to a seperate forum until we have at least some interest for this. Now, I can say, that it is no problem to set up a forum right away, when needed. Either as a subforum on Simply Gaming or a new board entirely. The ressources are available, so we just have to use them, should we reach such a point.

Unfortunately this days release didn´t cover the higher tiers already. So we have to wait until tomorrow for those, I guess. But the fact still remains, that a lot of us might donate more and get more out of it by pledging solo. That shouldn´t, of course, stop our discussion here immediately, because there might be a reasonable way after all.

Right now I could only see really expensive and high rewards for guilds as something that would make it reasonable to go through the efforts of donating together, instead of everyone doing it solo and then just form a guild nonetheless.

So we do have an island offered by Mark and his team. This Island will be included in a 5.000$ tier and seems to be tied to a single account then. Now, it doesn´t make sense, that people shouldn´t be able to visit maybe even "use" this island as well, if the owner grants access.

Lets imagine, that this island actually could be customized in a way that suits a guild and lets assume, that there won´t be any trust issues due to the chosen owner leaving the game and saying "HAHA - Idiots!". We then have a tier that costs 5.000$ and offers an awesome ingame island for "our" guild.

Personally I would have the following questions:

1) How to choose the "main-owner"?

2) How to raise 5.000$ for this tier, while still ensuring that every single player gets a decent "package" himself?

Any suggestions for that?

The 600$ Guild Tier comes with 10 Copies in total, allowing the 9 additional copies to redeem the "55$ Warrior"-Tier.

Lets assume we could be allowed to get this 5.000$ tier as a guild tier, that comes with, hmm 40 Copies rewarding everyone with like the unlimited "120$ Hero"- Tier.

No problem funding the tier then, if you find 40 people, BUT what if several of them actually were planning on donating a lot more? They would need to donate solo or pay more and still accept a 120$ tier with a few extra perks from the "5.000$-main"-tier

I see a big problem in balancing this out. Personally I´m going to put in 500-750$. Now checking the tiers in that level, only the 500$ does appeal to me, since I prefer digital rewards. But with 500$ I´m willing to spend way more, than the "additional copies" of the tiers are getting rewarded with.

Now, if you could find like 10 people, all willing to put in like 600$ and could get Mark to accept that for ten 500$ tiers as well as the island and some guild perks, that would be a whole different talk of course.

If there isn´t any suitable/flexible highend guild-tier for something like this, an option I could think of would be the following:

1) Forget any implementing on kickstarter for highend guild perks

2) Announce some guild perks, like guild island (f.x. 20.000$) or guild castle (f.x. 30.000$) or... on the official site.

3) Let people register guilds, which easily could be accomplished by a simple thread on a special forum for that. For example I make a Thread named "Guild: Oldschool". The Threadposter would be the "guildmaster" as well, meaning that he would start to have the rights for the island.

4) Everyone in that guild posts kickstarter-email and amount donated in that thread. If a guild reaches a certain amount = congratulations.

Its up to every single person then, if he is willing to show his membership in a guild and let his contribution count towards their guild-efforts.

5) When the kickstarter campaign is finished = stop any new guild registrations.

That way everyone gets his own "package" via kickstarter donation, but the additional guild perks from CSE would encourage guild formation, let the community grow and maybe even encourage people to pick a higher tier instead, so they are helping their guild even more reaching a certain goal.

Too weird to live, and too rare to die

I must say, I have been thinking about this at great length and unless Kickstarter or City State Entertainment had infrastructure in place that could handle shared guild pledges, these guild pledge tiers are, in my opinion, not useful and even a disaster waiting to happen.

Right now, the only way I see these panning out in any reasonable manner is if one person, likely the guild leader, of an established guild paid for the whole tier and either handed out the perks to members freely, or had them then pay him or her back. That is clunky and only works for fairly tight guilds, not new ones emerging for Camelot Unchained, or ones where one person has, say $5,000 to drop on a whim. Not many can.

I appreciate the effort and the thought, but I simply do not see these tiers being successful unless you could do the following:

1. Register your guild

2. Have people join your guild

3. People could then pledge to a guild pool, as well as their own solo pool, with the guild tier rewards automatically going to members who chipped in at launch

So, for example, I could make a guild called "OMG RvR!!!" somewhere on Kickstarter, and invite my guildmates to join that guild. Once they did so, they could pledge to the guild pool, and once the guild pool hit an unlock amount, everyone in "OMG RvR!!!" would get that stuff, as long as enough was there to go around.

Even my proposed method is problematic (how to split rewards, etc.), and I am pretty much certain such a thing cannot even be done.

Anyway, right now there is going to be drama like, "I gave my guild leader $500 so we could get the island, and now one year later I got booted from the guild!" Or, worse yet, the guild leader vanishes.

Caveat emptor? Sure! But all of these problems only crop up with these shared guild tiers, which, to me, means they should perhaps not even be offered.

Sorry, I didnt check back sooner!

Anyways, I can say I love the feedback here and would enjoy seeing some of the ideas you guys have been talking about as an implementable tool for the KS.  I am sure a lot of the regular forum members would be down with getting a 'guild' tag in order to help pool our resources.

As I mentioned, I would gladly figure head something.  I would also be willing to let someone else do it in order to make the most of our donations and maybe a way to get some cool guild swag in game.  With regard to the $$, I totally agree we need a way to delineate ourselves when it comes to the KS contributions page and tagging a guild.  I doubt anyone would feel comfy with handing over 50-1000+ dollars to someone they dont know without a promise/guarantee.

Hopefully, we hear more about this VERY soon as the KS is near and obvious some people are looking to get on board with the idea.  I know right now I am at least at the 550 threshold for single donation and have talked about 1250 in previous posts (ducks from wife aggro).

I run a ventrilo server and if people would like we can host a small meeting to discuss our intentions.  Inbox me if you would be interested in chatting about a tentative plan/guild and a direction for group based donations.  If you do inbox me, let me know a time that works for you .. I was thinking like 8pm EST time in and about to give all coasts an opportunity to discuss.

The question I see right now is if there is any chance to get something like a guild island without having someone pick the 5000$ and then somehow make it availabe for all. We need to see what guild perks are offered in the last part of the tiers I guess.

A guild tier with many lower tiered copies and some guild perks isnt attractive in my opinion. A guild tier with few higher tiered copies and something like an island would be interesting though.

Best way would be something organized by CSE outside of Kickstarter but including the donations, as i suggested before.

It resolves the trust issue at least the financial part of it and might encourage people to come together already now and even pledge more maybe.

Plus, Kickstarter takes 5% of all pledges upon successful funding. If we were able to directly pledge to CSE for the guild stuff, they would get 100% of the funds, less any processing fees from the credit card companies or PayPal.

PRX is working out something for one of the upper tiers for current members to pool our resources, but we wouldn't be recruiting people just for the sake of crowdfunding. We have a large core group of members, currently at casual status, having recently retired from active status in GW2. What I am seeing is a great deal of people out there seem ready to dig deep in their pockets for this game. The Kickstarter will reveal the true interest level though.

How are you guys planning on sharing the rewards of a guild tier if all of them only come with many lower tier copies or if islands and stuff only are rewarded by getting "solo tiers"?

I would imagine the higher guild tiers will come with stuff that actually makes sense for a guild. I would not be at all surprised to see a $5,000 or even $10,000 guild tier that comes with a whack of digital copies in addition to an island or some sort of guild building.

I do think the first guild tier that was shown has no purpose, though; like you said, it is just composed of solo tiers. You would be better off having members just buy their own solo tier rather than deal with the headache of managing the pledges and splitting it all.

A small group of us is all getting the game, but it looks like we are all individually pledging $250 and up. Works out far better for CSE that way ;\

I'm not sure the "guild" tiers are for new guilds forming; it's more for active guilds to chime in.

That's interesting. I've been wondering what the real response will be. You see activity on forums and article comment sections, but have no idea who's lurking or talking outside of these media outlets. Are the "great deal of people" that you're talking about in your guild or just people you know or what? I'm really just wondering what word of mouth is.

At the few sites I pop into from time to time (for old DAoC servers,) the response has been a lot better than I expected, a lot more people are talking about funding the KS than not.

I would also have thought guilds would be a tough draw. It's a pricey commitment for something 2-3 years off, everything is conceptual, there are a ton of other options, and well, some people are bitter about WAR. What's been the general attitude in your guild and any others you may have discussed CU with?
