It's starting to annoy me how people are just banging on this game with statements like "It's just boring" and expect people to read it and think this will apply to everyone.

It's sad when finally a game comes's out which breaks the mold of the usual MMO's, which is bound to only appeal to certain people and others just mindlessly bash it.

It's people like that which prevent MMO's from ever going anywhere, stuck in the same spiral of games which pretty much just have better graphics's.

I can perfectly understand that some people will hate this game as it will definitely only appeal to a certain type of gamers. However for them this is a blessing, wouldn't it be nice if more diverse games came out so everyone could play a game that good for them and not just the closest they can get to it like WoW.

The only reason why games like WoW are so popular is because it's so general that most people can go well its close to what I like so i can play it. I did it myself but it can never provide the gaming experience that i got from game's which were designed for a niche that i fit into.

So all i ask is not to make comment just bashing this game, fair enough say you don't like it and point out why so others with similar tastes can see its not the game for them, but lets not spoil it for other's who might be one download away from their perfect game.

Let's encourage this kind of growth in MMO's so we get a more diverse range of games to play so people can find their true home in a game.

(References to WoW was just an example of a popular game this is not a WoW bashing post)

the only way this game breaks any mold is by its force you to roleplay aspect. this is aspect is forced because there is just NOTHING else to do in the game.

I like this game... but there is some truth in what you have said. If you are not willing to roleplay... then this game is indeed a poor quality CS.... so if tht is what you are looking for, then dont waste your time. Without the role playing aspect, this game is a waste of everyones time.

To die with honour is to be victorious in life.

This thread makes a valid point.....the game is boring if you don't role play, and sometimes even if you do role play it can be boring as hell as well. If they don't fix the activities of the FDC faction, we are probably going to loose too many players. FDC has nothing to do except assist the LED.....and all we do is stay on stand by waiting for the calling and stand around doing nothing......can't even role play a soldier on duty, unless you find standing around doing nothing chatting with your fellow brother-in-arms enough RP.

Have to put something up!

Are there any sort of quests/missions that arent roleplayed?

Are there GM-assisted events? (This should be a big yes if the rp-aspect is that big).

Are the npc:s ingame just business-dolls or do the give some sort of dynamic information? (Must you ask other people on the status of treaties/war?)

Essentially im wondering what TOOLS do the players have to roleplay? I do hope it isnt just a chat interface ontop of a CounterStrike-clone.

FDC may go to Yukon and do firing practice and will be reimbursed by high command for ammo used.

FDC will also have more training with the LED. I myself am discussing with FDC on new training together.

A week before retail the CTD and I (with some of my DPI) made a small training event.

We still do some lethal fights on Saturdays, but it isn't very organized or fun.

In time FDC will improve.

Patients is very important, don't expect this game to be all about you and what you want.

You are just one random FDC and probably not even a respectable one.

I'd have to say that any trader mission would be rather difficult to roleplay due to the sheer boredom and lack of anything to really produce/mine with what features are offered for the missions.  Aside from that it's rather hard to say take a group of 4 traders and have each mine/produce items unless they increase it something substantial in amounts.

Can't really comment here as I didn't stick with the game past 3 weeks; however, others had mentioned that there were past events but more often than not all events depended upon the cooperation of the players involved.  Sure it would be easy to say throw a party somewhere, have players show up in normal clothes then a gang of say MOTB jumps in and insta-gibs the entire party just because they felt like it.  Granted this can happen in practically any game with free for all PvP but there seems to be less regard to roleplaying in Face of Mankind from my perspective.

There are a few NPCs scattered around and will mumble various things; however, they don't offer anything else.  To some extent you can carry on a conversation with the NPCs and they will generate responses back, sometimes fitting for what has been said and other times totally out of place.  Unless things have changed during conversations with NPCs they will all ask you at one point how do you like it here in Brooklyn (even if you're not anywhere near the Earth [i.e. on the Moon Base]) or something about the weather in Brooklyn; however, depending upon faction some can't go there (one of LED's base cities).  Being part of the Brotherhood (Mob like one would think would cling to Brooklyn but can't) you can mention that you are from Paris and they'll go "How's the weather in Brooklyn?"

If some refinements were made towards the NPCs (i.e. faction recognition and/or more cities to chat about it would be one of the more intuitive NPCs systems to come about in the MMO genre.  Most MMOs have plain scripts to which the most one can do is either say hi to them and get the standard "blah blah blah" response or just a blank stare.  With Face of Mankind's system it would be possible to push the NPC chat recognition towards something other MMOs would be likely to implement.

As for the status of treaties and wars there's a button on the user interface that shows which factions your faction is allied with and which ones you're at war with.  Other than that there's practically no way of knowing when standing has changed between the various factions.

Essentially im wondering what TOOLS do the players have to roleplay? I do hope it isnt just a chat interface ontop of a CounterStrike-clone.

Well if they haven't fixed the horrid combat system it's just another CounterStrike clone as there isn't anything that forces players on any side to roleplay.  Gank or be Ganked is the basic ruleset especially when dealing with MOTB as they follow their own ruleset (which can be fine but when other factions are trying to roleplay it just blows everything out of the water with lack of cooperation presented by their faction).  Some factions are more roleplaying oriented than others but it still comes down to the individual players and whether or not they want to join/play along with the script.  About the best roleplaying one will get is on the forums, of all places, to which many times turns into pissing contests that we're all familure with when reading any forum.

Additionally all the worlds have about the same size map of any CounterStrike map which greatly limits the scope of what can be done.  It's especially disappointing that one has to port constantly even between various cities on the same country.  An example would be one cannot travel through Manhattan to Brooklyn or Ground Zero (NYC) but has to port between each.  Sure all 3 cities in real life are rather large and any transportation other than by foot would be prefered; however, the fact that in a game you can't get to each of them outside of portals is disappointing.

Of all things that Face of Mankind has going for it the only two which could be considered innovative and/or new and refreshing to the MMO genre would be the player generated missions and the interactive NPCs.  These two systems still need a lot of attention; however, would be great to see implemented in the next generation of MMORPGs as they will just add to the immersion players could potentially receive from an MMO.

"True observation begins when one is devoid of set patterns."
-Bruce Lee

There should be neither an encouragement of any sort or any ybg fit of state against the poor qualities of the game, since a game should be straightforward on it's IG standpoint from respected opinions from experienced players, not 1 day trial members....lol

An experienced member may be entitled to their opinion in a good or bad approach, since they have experienced that perticular game in every little detail and takes out it's flaws and strengths....

1 day trial members do NOT, since they hold no immediate liable reasons for such a 'poor' game, since they have not entirely experienced every game feature or detail....and are missing out on the bigger meaning to the MMO or any game for that matter.

Yeaaaahhhhh.... I dont think a game with no content or objectives is going to 'Push the boundaries' of mmorpg development. I'll do you a deal, if anyone comes up to me and says 'hey can you recommend an mmorpg where I literally do nothing? I mean sit around all day. content and objectives make me uncomfortable' - I will reply - 'Yeah face of mankind is most certainly the game for you'. Hows that?
