I think many of the winners are around at daily basis - yes it could be for the chance to win -, and many if not all of them probably won't leave after the contest.
About contributing legitimate posts to the forum sounds like a fine idea, thou it's not flawless. What about people who's been active for a long time, but doesn't really have anything to post in the forums, should they be left out? I doubt that will happend.

If youre around for awhile, log in often and have something to say to or about the community then yes you should get to participate, if not then why are you here?  Its not hard to do.  And nothing is "flawless", but allowing people to enter a contest when they have 0 posts and their join date was last week is definitley not flawless.  (Not directed at you or your staff Malkavian, I think you do a fine job and youve said you all are looking into it.)  All just IMO.

Is it really gonna make that much difference? They'll probably have a trial period when they go live, so you'll still get to play it for free at some point. Dont forget this wasn't done to get decent beta testers, if they wanted that they'd take on some more of the people already on their books. This was marketing pure and simple - Face of Mankind get a big piccie on the frontend of MMPORPG for the duration and MMPORPG get some people to sign up that might not have done otherwise.

Smug git that I am I'm perfectly happy with the system, but if they change it as Malkavian says then fine - my entry was a shot in the dark and I invested no more value in it than that. It's not like I can go "hah! I won a random competition therefore I am better than all u sukkors! I am way more valuable to MMPORPG.com than U!!!!!"

Relax, let someone else have their time in the sun, it will end and yours will begin, and the cycle goes round again.

I think it's great if new people sign up just to join a beta contest, alot of them will stay here and continue to read and/or post.

I value someone with 30 mature and constructive posts alot more than someone with 700 pointless "I want to win too!!!" posts (not ment to be against ramadin, no idea how his other posts are).

Just because some people only post when they have something to say and just read rest doesn't mean they contribute less, they just help everyone so we don't have to read even more pointless spam.

I think that they should have an ip check on accounts tho and allow max 2-3 from each ip (several people in same house can have joined) and also check adress on the winners so it atleast look like a real adress.

Hehe or read the whole thread before replying...  Yes we stated the IP address thing.  It really has nothing to do with post count.  I was referring to serious members as opposed to ones who make 10 accounts to try to win.

Just thought I would drop in here to clear some things up.  We police the contests VERY tightly.  Here are a few points to mention:

• Our system only allows one person to register as a member per IP, per 10 hours.  This would be stricter, but crappy ISPs like AOL use proxy servers and have many millions of people all using a pool of 1000 or so IP addresses.
• We have a system that analyzes contest entries and the users bound to them against many patterns.  With this system we remove TONS of entries (300+ were disqualed from the FOMK contest alone).  Although getting by us is not impossible, it is tough.
• Because of our "logins = bonus tickets" most of our winners have logged into the site often.  Although people might create many accounts, will they really login with each of them - each day?  And if they DO...they are just creating more duplicate IP data that we will hone in on them with.

Bottom line, don't cheat because you will just remove yourself from the contest entirely.

my problem with just 1 account from an ip is that i use roadrunner and a router with 4 hook ups, that way my son, wife, myself and a friend can all play UO or whatever game together or when we wish to. yes i have 4 comps in the house, had 5 when wife worked from home. but if we only could have one account per ip addy then my wife or son couldnt have an account here which as of right now only i have an account here, but if they wanted one it would hurt them. also using an email addy wouldnt work as we could all just make 5 hotmail or yahoo addys. i figure everyone has the same chance to win as the next person, weather its no post or 1000 post. its like winning the lottery, i bought 1 ticket and didnt win the guy next to me bought 1 ticket and won, luck. so let the moderators figure it out and just be happy someone got into the game, even if he didnt win you still might not have won. again some times i post on items i read here sometimes i read them shake my head or laugh and hit the home page again, like the sims i read about it when it comes up but since i dont play it have no interest in playing it theres no reason to give my 2cents on it, but what some write is fun or interesting to read, so i do.

Couple notes:

1. Only one entry per household is allowed in our contests (see rules)
2. You can have accounts for more than one person in your house...you just can't all sign up at the same time.  We allow one account per IP per 10 hours...so it might just take a couple days to sign up them all
3. Just make sure you obide by rule #1 - if multiple people in your household are entered in the same contest our system will detect it as cheating...and according to our rules it is ;)
