Lame. I think people just make accounts to win, never see any of these people on the forum.

I'm on the forums quite often I think! |

Maybe i should try that next time... Just start making names and enter a contest as many times as I can. Never post anything in the forums and see how many times I can win. hmmm...

Dedicated to the PC, the Internet is my window to the world. |
I see about 5 or 6 of them in the forums, which means probably 10 to 12 are active here. I know I feel a bit let down. MMORPG -- Where's the RP? |

We''re trapped in the belly of this horrible machine |
Posting alot on a forum does not a good tester make. I could go to a random games forums and rack up an ungodly post count in a very short time, does thet make me anymore qualified than someone who doesn't sit there hitting refreshing every three seconds? Not that it matters anyway, 75% of the people that go into a beta are just doing it to play a game for free, 15% are looking for bugs that they can exploit later once the game goes live. The other 10% actually try to test the game. Thats why all these MMOs that have a test server, it's dead. Like WoW. Everyone wants in beta, but they aren't interested in actually looking for bugs, they just want to play the game. And people wonder why these games are so damn buggy when they're released. -------- |

The mind is it's own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heav'n. |
Ok, I happily admit I singed up for the giveaway because I wanted to have a go at face of mankind for free, but while I'm not going to go out of my way to destruction test the game (My MMPORPG experience is fairly limited so there are probably plenty of people better at it than me) I'm still going to log any bugs/problems/queries I find and help out where I can. Anyway, while I remember something about number of log-ins increasing the number of "goes" you got at winning, it was still ultimately down to dumb luck who got in and who didn't - if you're a decent beta tester just sign up at the site and put down your experience, then it's judged on quality rather than random chance (yay for the gods smiling on me this day!). If you get in that way they'll take a lot more notice of what you have to say than they ever will of me. |

That's normaly how I go about it, and I get into most of the betas I sign up for. Except for crap like EQ2 where priority goes to the handfull of tools that are on the premium server. In the meantime I will have to make do with beta testing my tv setup by watching Farscape reruns. -------- |

I checked up on the winners and there were only 2 that were Apprentice members (and one of them had over 40 posts). The rest were Advanced (11), Hardcore (4) and Elite (3) and I think all had 30+ posts, so doesn't look like that many creates accounts just to win, most seems to be active or semi active on these forums. ------------------------- |

Yeah and remeber there are 60000 members on mmorpg.com even if a tenth only entered the competition and there only a quarter log in everyday, you still have 1500 people wanting 20(40) places. so still very hard to win something. I always try to enter for the fun and because it is a nice way to win a beta but most of the times i just go to the gamessite and apply for beta, that's still the best way to give your specs and experience. I m not really sad i didn't win because i wanted to try/test this game before it goes gold. But it is not bad because in june/july a new serious closed beta begins. So testing and in the end playing (hopefully).
One day all will die, surely you but never I. |
