That sounds like it should be a minor league baseball promotion. The first 1000 people who come to the game get a free copy of EverQuest, and all you have to do to activate the account is buy something for $50 from the item mall.
I was wondering how quickly an SOE hater would post a snide remark about the item mall. really, you guys need to move on with your lives. it isn't that big of a deal. unsub and move on
I think this is about 5 years too late, SOE is on it's downward slide now with only a slight possibility the new MMO's they have upcoming will get them out of the doldrums.
Personally as long as Smedley is in charge they have no chance. Never met a CEO that has such a distorted view of the industry and his clientèle.
As to the item mall, only a matter of time before signicant items appear on it, they need the revenue bad. Once they started, they won't be able to stop. So it is a ongoing issue whether you like it or not.
If you think about it it will affect you even if you don't participate in it. Changes that would have been added to the game free in an update will now instead be added via station cash. Why give it away when you can sell it? That is one of the downfalls of this system. It makes devs more opt to put less content in for the cost of the game plus sub.
And I was wondering how quickly a minor league baseball hater would post a snide remark about my post. :p
OF COURSE SOE is being awarded this by a tax cheat politician

Birds of a feather....Fraud, lies, Deceit, All things SOE stands for..
Rather: Fraud, Lies, Deceipt, - all things that Unregulated Free Market Corporate Capitalism stands for.
Lucky us, we're witness to the restructuring of post Industrial Revolution western civilization , the banishment of Greed as a viable basis upon which to build a company.
Keep drinking that Obama kool aide there...The "greed" you are speaking of is how the economy of the US works. What DOESN'T work is socialism, spread the wealth, steal from the haves and give to the have-nots...Ask the Former USSR or any of their once owned "states"
My grandmother grew up in the heart of the USSR. She sees a lot of Marx in what Mr. Obama is up to...is that what you want for your children?
Greed is intrinsic to human nature. Politicians can no more abolish that than they can abolish the law of gravity. That won't stop them from trying, of course, though they tend to prefer to try to abolish various principles of economics instead.
Besides, I think the word you're looking for is "deceit".
Have to love people who can't avoid injecting political comments in a thread about a gaming company. You doom and gloom boys really crack me up. Maybe you should stand on a street corner and yell "the world is ending", might be more self satisfying.
But on a sidenote, it was past administration's non interference by their federal agencies that got us into this mess to start with. Certainly left us with another legacy to comment about.
What a disagrace to honor a company that has done more harm to the genre of late than any other.
Yes I give SOE much credit for helping launch Everquest originally, which was once the best MMOG on the market, but they also single handedly destroyed it.
Now Smedley and SOE are promoting microtransactions, the dummying down of MMOGs, poor customer service, and dishonesty.
San Diego is a beautiful city but now I am thankful I don't live there anymore. I used to live right by the pier in OB, right near where SOE had their headquarters. Clearly the city councilman is being greased by dollars and lacks insight about SOE's true nature.

Don't be naive. Communism didn't work because those in charge were greedy. It's human nature. At least in a capitalist system everyone has a chance.
