I know that this is unlikely but with the introduction of EQ2 and WoW I would play EQ if the monthly fee was less than the newer games. I am playing the free trial and really like what I am see. For one thing EQ still has the feeling that you are working for something IMHO. Reduce the price and I will buy the Plat box and maybe the new supplements. Anyone feel the same way? No. Regardless of it being an older game, it still costs the same amount to run the servers, hire technicians to look after the servers, pay GMs, pay the upkeep on the website, etc... Plus, $15 per month for a max of 8 characters per server (and there's loads of servers) isn't that bad. Buy the plat box, and pay the normal monthly fee like the rest of us. You won't be disappointed. 1337est of teh 1337,

Point taken. I was merely thinking of ways to maintain the population. Is the cost 15 dollars now?

thought it was 12.95? they should try what AO did, just the original world, I would so def play that. |

Looked it up it is 12.95. At 19.95 for plat it may be worth playing EQ with all the supplements. If you look at how long UO and AC have been around I dont think a game like EQ will dry up. The problem I have is that most of my friends have gone to WoW whaich is the same monthly fee. Also my computer will run WoW but EQ flies on it because the game is older.

They get me for $6 extra bucks a month but I get all their games. If you really think it costs them anything close to what they change in monthlies to keep a game going you probably also beleive AOL and most other ISP raised their rates cause they actually did hardware upgrades or something like that, whatever excuse they had at the time. They use a pretty heavy multiplier when they increase rates because of "upgrades". If you ever wanted to try any other game by Sony other then just EQ its well worth it to get the All Access pass. Otherwise I would suggest you just get used to the monthly, its not gonna go down and it could very well go up if they ever feel the need to raise it due to "rising costs". Thats normal business, nothing wrong with it, just a way of getting more money from the public in an accepting manner. - Fadeus

Overall, i'd agree that Sony(SOE) increased prices just because they figured they could. This year Sony(SOE) reduced servers by almost half which had to cut costs. Granted at times it seems like there's no customer service, but fairly confident the amount of GameMasters(GMs) are fewer, again cutting costs. The lesser amount of servers/GMs is logical though since fewer & fewer people are playing EQ. Could've EQ retained more customers if Sony(SOE) had kept their rate lower, possibly? Is Sony(SOE) just trying to squeeze as much out of EQ's revenue it can as long as it can, probably too? Sony(SOE) operates EQ to make profit, make no doubt. Also to consider is the almost mandatory every 3-6 month release of another expansion or combination package. It's the Sony(SOE) version of a Druid's Chloroplast, but for generating revenue. i'm sure Sony(SOE) could still be charging their old rates & still be making profit, but then we might think we were more than accounts. i feel ten to fifteen bucks a month isn't too bad, depending upon a customer's subscription plan, as long as you have fun. That's why i quit, EQ as a game can still be fun, but not much fun when not able to progress well. By the way, the pixel grass in PoK, doesn't grow. i've logged many LFG hours to verify. i think the most innovative department at Sony(SOE) recently has been their marketing, they're relentless. i'm sure the Sony(SOE) EQ designers/developers have passion for EQ too though. i concede this Titanium package is well timed & a value too. i could upgrade my Platinum to Titanium & then ... watch a pixel flower grow? Hmm i disagree with this diablo2 isnt costing nuthing to play they can afford to lower the rates. The cost of the games and expansions alone is enough to run the servers if they droped the fees down by half its just meaning someone is taking a pay loss not that it cost that much and if anyone takes a pay cut at sony they will prolly shut it down they are very greedy. And remember doing anything more then a few hours a day is a addiction and outa control. |

I think the SOE department of SONY is way under staffed for the prices they are are charging. I ferther think that SONY SOE department NEEDS a toll free line. I live in Canada. and think we should be paying the equivilint of say 10$ Canadian dollars I think that the services are just not there. I woud rather not have the privilage to have to pay for a Long distance phone call to the SONY help line on top of the high subscription fee. PS. Did I mention SONY needs to have a TOLL FREE Line?

I play wow but I enjoyed EQ much more. If they dropped the price I would be back in EQ. The thing I find interesting is you can find 100+ hacked wow servers, but only ever see 1 hacked eq server, and its bizzare... google 'top 100 warcraft', the exteme top100 list.. and read the list. then google top 100 everquest. shards of daylia? is the only eq one.
Anyway.... |
