Hey all.

I currently play EQ2 and I'm really enjoying it. What with the station pass going to 20$ i'm considering starting up EQ as well. I downloaded the trial (have yet to actually get into it) and I'm just wondering what the player base is like? is it "too late" to start EQ and will I be able to group at all while levelling up.

Also, EQ used to be famous for it's level grind. Has it gotten better with all the expansions and how long does it take to level on average?

inb4 "PLAY FOR THE GAME NOT THE LEVELLING". If I'm playing an older game, I want to level faster simply because the players are all at endgame, and that's where the current and relevant content is.

Spelling and grammar do matter.

I find your lack of real-life skills disturbing.

The two progression servers are only up to the first expansion (Kunark). So content is relatively limited compared to the others; then again, by no stretch of the imagination is everyone at cap. My highest is at level 16... umm, make that 15 - got killed a bunch the last time I played.

I'll give the progression server a try, but that's old-school with no stat updates or extras and with the hardcore mode death penalties and super steep leveling curve. I'm not sure I'd be a fan of that, as I only allow one game at a time (Vanguard) to give me a heart attack through lost XP and dropped items.

Lost XP, yes; corpse runs, no. All the chickens voted it down. And actually the newbie armor/weapon quests got activated early (the suspicion is that it was an accident, but after a long silent pause the devs claimed "no, no, we meant to do that"). The leveling is a tad slow in the first 5 levels or so, but that's because they evened out the later "hell levels".

Actually I didn't get killed "a lot", just one time too many without enough XP-ing in between. My fault, really: the north end of Nektulos Forest is a bad place to go AFK.
