G'day. Despite recoiling in horror after briefly returning to EQ1 a while ago and discovering no meaningfull upgrade to controls, defaults, third person view (my character still blocks my clicks), or UI, I am back in a position where I'd like to return to a more challenging old school fantasy MMO. Can anyone please suggest a workable WASD controls setup given I can't remember what's important and where it might make sense to move displaced controls when I move to WASD? Does it make sense to try and use third person view, or should I bite the bullet and go first person? It's just so hard to play first person after all these years in third person in newer MMOs. Any advice on ordering the hundred different EQ UI elements? There seems to have been zero thought on the part of the EQ devs as to a sensible default layout. It's just been too damn long away and I freely admit I need some helllllllllp! :-) If I can just get over this initial hump I'm sure I'll be ok. Oh, and once I get past the hump and find a race/class combo worth sticking with nowadays, what server do you reckon is the best choice? Or conversely are there any that are just dead and should be avoided? TIA heaps! - Wizardling If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. |

Mapping controls to WASD is fairly easy. You can pretty much remap all the keys in options... Is 'duck' on 'd'? You might want to move that to 'c' (for 'crouch'). I recently remapped to WASD for my son, but I don't remember exactly what I did.
As far as third person, I use the scroll wheel a lot to switch back and forth between 1st and 3rd person as needed, since I have gotten used to 3rd person in other games. (It really is a 1st person game, but it *can* be played 3rd person.) As I am sure you've already discovered, the first thing to do if you're going to play in 3rd person is to turn off the click 'inspect' and set keys to cycle through nearby targets.
It's a little easier to get answers in the General forum here or on the official forums. Just sayin'. |
