$oE , destroying MMO since 1999.

How many does this actually bother?

It has become impossible to find a pick up group and family guilds are dying out on the server. A lot of players are not grouping anymore but just botting multiple accounts at once.

Will this be how EQ ends? Botters taking over and giving EQ the deathblow?

Not a retired MMORPG.com mod

It's already a done deal.

I hate multiboxers aka botters and I wish more game developers and communities would at least take a moral stance against this practice and ostracize those who wan't to ruin the MMOG experience by playing multiple toons at once.

Lucky enough most companies don't agree with your stance. Got beaten up much by multiboxers and now feel a need to cry?

"I play MMORPGs to feel FREE, yet I am always in chains."

EXCUSE ME!

Multi-boxers are NOT botters!  That is an outrageously incorrect thing to say.  In fact, multi-boxers add to the game because when it is difficult to find a group, they often bring a tank and healer combo, or some sort of combination that helps a group.

The game has not been taken over by either botters (there are no botters) or boxers.  The vast majority people in Everquest do not box.

Everquest remains the best MMORPG on the market, and I anticipate it will for the long term future.

Moo.

I was in a lot of groups during my recent stint in EQ (which ended a couple of weeks ago when I moved to EQ2 to take advantage of THAT free time). I was in both pick up and guild groups. About half those groups included a boxed cleric. (Note, I didn't say bot, which would imply the cleric was on autopilot via a third party program... I played L2. I've seen some bots. Lord, have I seen some bots!)  This meant that the other 4 people in the group actually got to play and have fun, rather than spending that time sending unsolicited tells to every cleric, shaman, and druid who wasn't anonymous or roleplay.

Maybe it was just my sunny disposition or my guild tag that got me those groups. Or maybe it was just a desperate attempt to get some dps. (I was playing a berserker.)

EQ was over a couple of years ago. It's kind of them to keep developing content for it and to continue supporting the servers (several of which really could use another merge). But it's a dinosaur. A loveable dinosaur, but old and crusty nonetheless. It's a miracle that there are still enough people playing for there even to be multiboxers to be mad about. (And that's possibly a testament to the staying power of this game... It *is* a good game, but the decline is inevitable with time.)

Me too. It's not a problem when only a few people do it, but almost everyone started to do it. It's like I was talking to robots most of the time, noone responds to you, it became much too lonely.

Jesus is King

Boxed and bots are two completely different things. I have zero problems with people two boxing. Thats been around before PoP expansion. I DO have a problem with botting, though.

Blessings,

If Christianity is the following of Christ, His words and His leadership, then Christianity is the right way forward. Jesus is the One who claimed to be THE Truth and who possesses all wisdom and knowledge (Col 2:4-5) Though in Christianity many may say or do goofy things, Christ is the Faithful Witness so that is my cornerstone. When I made that decision, the world and all of its religions and philosophies suddenly became clear as it is all of Him, through Him, to Him and for Him.

War is not the ultima ratio, but the ultima irratio - Willy Brandt

Uh, I really dont get the point of bashing "botters" as long as you talk about dualboxers. Especially in games like EQ where you need to have a party to succeed. In such games, having a healbot is a requirement to succeed if you cannot find a party. So naturally, people will dualbox there.

For those people who think it is impossible to come back to EQ because its too old to enjoy anymore, i have to disagree.

I returned to EQ about 3 weeks ago after a long break. Ive played countless MMO's since then, and i have to say im cancelling all other MMO subscriptions and im going to give EQ my full attention again.

I came back and im really enjoying it. Im really glad i didnt pay too much attention to the EQ flamers.

The biggest problem with Everquest is not botters but people in these classic and progression guilds that behave worse than any child gone wild in World of Warcraft.

I was playing on Combine last night, and I saw this guild called Dawn of Marr just completely gang rape one of its own former members in general chat for like four hours, proving what the guy was saying about how the guild attacks those that leave the guild on less than favorable terms.  I did not say anything, but it is despicable the drama that these socalled classic and progression guilds create.

Everquest is a game that can be enjoyed more if you box.  I suggest people play the way I do a chance before they quit:  network in-game.  Join with real-life friends and family.  The game experience is different but better, and you still need a solid group to do well. Develop relationships with positive people.

Edit:  And then when Dawn of Marr was finished with attacking this one guy, which was literally a 9 v 1 fight, another classic guild started spamming general chat about joining it.  I played EQ when it was released, but I think you have people from World of Warcraft coming to EQ, forming classic guilds, and bringing their drama with them.

The drama did not come from World Of  Warcraft people, the worst scum I have met in EQ1 and the best people in WoW, thats a fact. This board slams WoW continually, well here is a news flash, EQ1 is a horrible, ancient p.o.s. that has no players.

There is a reason for it, from being trained at level 13 in Oasis by bored Uber guild jerks, people being spawn whores sitting in the best loot camps 72 hours straight by passing their account to friends to play, to ripping newbies off in trades. EQ1 doesn't have all the instancing WoW does, and the nuts here don't like instancing, well I want instancing to avoid the nuts like the ones here!

There are too many free alternatives that offer more than meaningless and endless level grinds to make EQ relevant anymore. Plus, the new breed of MMO like AoC and the upcoming Warhammer Age of Reckoning remove any value left in the antiquated EQ model.

Make it free permanently or close up shop. EQ just isn't worth paying for.

Typical response from someone that never played EQ1 during the prime days and started MMO's with WoW.  EQ1 is dead now, you are correct but without EQ's success their would be no WoW.   So before you go blindly bashing EQ1, maybe you should show it some respect.  I agree now a days EQ1 has for the most part has a bad community because it is made up of hardcore raiders and diehard EQ1 fans and not many casual players like the old days.

It is not a fact that WoW has less scum then EQ1, that is your opinion based on your experince in both games.   Personally WoW has the worst community in any MMO I have ever played, were as EQ1 had the best community in any MMO i played.

Instances ruin the flow of a game, it ruins the need to have a good community.   Instances are okay in small doses and can bring a fun element to any game but to make a game full of Instances is just stupied and should not happen in MMOs but Gaming companies just like most companies rather take easy road and make Instances because its easier to balance.

Back when EQ1 was the top dog, guild leaders talked to each other, they worked out plans so that each guild could take its shot at the big raid mobs.  The community worked together to stop asshats.   I remeber many many times in my days playing EQ1 were a group would not allow someone in because they had a really bad rep.   The community is what made EQ1 so great, the gameplay was fun but the Community rocked.

EQ1 had the best Community of any MMO I have ever played to date and I have played just about everyone.

It is really too bad that some of you first time MMO players didnt get to play EQ1 during its hay days, it was amazing, you cannot find another game like EQ1.  Nothing will bring back that feeling of fear while explore some new far off place.  Nothing will bring back the hundreds of pages of information I wrote down in Note books to keep track of my quest.  Nothing will bring back the feeling after finishing your Epic quest.  Nothing will bring back the feeling of finally after all your hard work dinging lvl 50 (old level cap).

Sorry but EQ1 was the best PVE MMO ever made to date.  It was not for PvPers and I understand that UO was the best PvP MMO.   I wish some company would create a world like EQ1 with FPS combat.

Dont get me wrong, I played WoW for about 2 years and I enjoyed my time but it was nothing compared to EQ1.  WoW I rarely ever did Pick up groups because the community sucked as did most of&nb
