Wow, that would be an awesome idea! In WOW it is fun to be able to send freinds messages of things you might have found to do or presents if you you know they are searching for certain tradeskills.

Note on one of the new item coming with Dragons of Norrath expansion in February: Guild 'Looking for Members' Tool - Allows guilds to recruit by placing persistent “ads” on bulletin boards, search for player characters who match guild criteria and send in-game emails to those members.
