So,

I remember, fondly, my days (and nights, and weekends, and "sick-days") spent playing EQ from '98 to late 2k, and have been lurking on some forums. Seems lots of oldschool EQ players have gone back, and I'm thinking of doing the same.

Issues are:

  1. I work for a living, and my game time is now minimal ( EQ used to be a full time commitment. not sure if that holds anymore, I've only got 15-20 hrs a week of available playtime.)
  2. I don't have my old acct info, and don't want to pay for a game I've already bought. (Granted, it was 10 years ago)
  3. I DO have my acct info for Vanguard, but doubt I'll play it if I resub.
    1. The only reason I'd do this is for the station pass Sub...
  4. I'm not sure the $29.99 a month is worth it.

I was one of the many who had a literal addiction to playing EQ back in the day, and would be interested in checking it out again.
I really want to know if there's enough familiarity and nostalgia to be gained here to warrant the $30 a month... Cause I'm sure as hell not buying the game again.

Opinions? Suggestions? I'm all ears...

1. This game doesn't require anywhere near the amount of time necessary back in the early 2000's.  No more long hours of corpse retrieval, because everybody can summon corpses to the guild lobby.  No more hell levels, no more slow exp, and no more forced grouping at least not the first 80 levels.

2. I'm not sure what the question it is for your #2, but I'm guessing you are asking how to retrieve your old account?  There's a package you can purchase for just $20, which will include the first 30 day free.  Compare that to $40 for the latest expansion if you were to tag it onto your existing account, and having to pay $15 a month, I think it's a good deal.  It's the Starter Pack, includes 14 expansions (everything except for the latest expansion) all for $20.  That's $5 more than you would pay for 1 month subscription, I think it's a good deal for people with money issues or unsure if they want to commit.   You'll find that option when you go purchase EQ1.

If you really want your old account back, you could contact SOE customer service.  Just remember that account probably is very lacking in expansion, if it has any at all.

3. Monthly sub is only $15, but station pass is more yeah.  Personally I don't play multiple SOE games so I don't spend that much.  But of course I have more than 1 account heh.

Is it worth it?  I came back Jan. 2009 and have played 11 months straight, and very much looking for the next expansion coming in December.  So to me, my g/f, and a friend of ours, we're having a great time.

I can't believe I'm playing EQ1 again...and having tons of fun
