I have been looking at both of these games. And even though EQ2 is newer EQ seems to have more of a following. what are the pros and cons of both? note: im not one to care about graphics, so the depth of each is what appeals to me |

EQ is dated and pretty much the majority are raiding at the endgame. EQ2 you'd probably find better. Though, there is an EQ trial somewhere around if you'd rather try the first one out. |

i played till max char on each game and although eq has a ton of raiding at end game, the game is so huge there is still plenty of progression other than raiding if you dont mind the hard work. The main difference with the two games for me is the depth of characters. eq2 is more pick up and play. It is very easy to get into and has a fast learning curve. where eq has a slow learning curve and you to progrss other than raiding at end game you really need to know your char. They are both very good games but for me eq has the edge. EQ had a more diificult risk/reward system for me that seems to reward me for exploration and risk. in EQ i can become a god with hard work where in eq2 everyones a god in no time. EQ makes me learn my character class. An example of EQ for me is the fact that i come across a rare mob, i engage and it wipes the floor with me..i ready myself and come across the same mob again for another go...this time i half kill it before i fll....after a few attempts and different stratagies i beat the mob. In eq2 if i get wiped fighting a mob it usualy means that untill i level a few or come back with friends i am wasting my time. what im trying to say is maybe eq2 is more level dependent where eq employs tactics. Both games are good solid performers though friend so i would really suggest trying both to find your preferred style. |

I currently play EQ2, I used to play EQ (played until launch of EQ2 and then on and off for about a year afterwards) I prefer EQ2 but I'm more of a casual gamer. I did love EQ, it was my first mmo and nothing can replace it in my affections. However, if you look at it logically, EQ has been around for a while now and there are about a zillion expansions to go through. True, you can get the editions that have all the expansions in one but so much content at once can be overwhelming. There is also the issue of more higher end characters and not enough lower end characters to fill all the content. There are not as many quests, they aren't as easy to find or complete, so you're stuck mainly grinding out xp by killing mobs. And good luck finding a group at lower levels. It can be difficult. That being said, there are certainly things that I miss about EQ that I wish they'd incorporated into EQ2. EQ2 sometimes feels a little too easy. (I say that now, but I know I'll change my mind when I'm trying to kill a group of ^^^ heroics for a quest and the party wipes out) In any event, it probably all comes down to preference. Both games have trial versions so I would suggest that if you can't make up your mind. Happy gaming! :) |

I greatly prefer my EQ original style. But if starting out now EQ2 would probably be easier to get into. The playerbase in EQ is pretty much top end. If you see lowbies around they are most likely twinks and though they may group with you they probably dont have to group since there gear is way high for what they are fighting. Learning curve is probably a little easier in EQ2. EQ1 was gotten alot easier to get into then it was originally. There is now a tutorial and newbie area that teaches you stuff where before you popped up with a rusty weapon and had to figure it out. Graphics on EQ2 are very good (in my opinion) and the graphics of EQ are dated (though still not bad in my opinion) Right now EQ2 is probably the game for you. If there was a way to start EQ1 back in 2000 and EQ2 at whatever its hayday was i would go EQ1 every time. |
