Rarebit, one of the last remaining MxOs developers (who quite possibly is the only developer left), announced that he will be departing SOE. Before he leaves, he will be posting most of the story documentation that was supposed to cover this entire year. What this leads me to believe is that SOE will not be replacing Rarebit. Update 66 is probably the last meaningful update to MxO and now the storyline is in the hands of the players to craft.
