Pretty much.  These dudes, The Mercs, exploited and duped the hell out fo the game at the very start.  They had gigantic adventage over everybody else both in terms of character development and gear.  I mean, these guys built Man-O-War, the biggest ship in Darkfall, soon after launch when other clans, much bigger clans, could not build entry level ships.  3 years later, there was perhaps 10 Man-O-Wars on the whole server... and The Mercs managed to build one in the first month of the game lol.  There was even a video of them duping items before it was fixed, by putting items in the trade window and then waiting for server to reset for maintenance, when the server came back up, both of the people had the same items, and The Mercs did this for months.

Eventually tho, other people caught up to them with gear and character development...then The Mercs left the game.  About year later, they made big come back to the game...well...they thought they did, posting big propaganda on the forums and what not, and this time, being at a good disadvantage in terms of character development and gear, pretty much the opposite of how it was during early launch, The Mercs once again were raped off the server in less than a week.  Scrubs.
