brought this last night and have had a decent go of it now...probably about six hours.

unless you are really prepared for an Alpha game then stay away. Theres so many bugs at the moment that you really need to have a strong alpha head on you.

Controls are clumsy at best. Pretty much the worst thought out controls i have ever experienced. Though please bear in mind i have been playing MMO's for over 20 years now and have got so used to them that this may be why these seem so alien. Trying to be kind there.

I know they have mentioned that zombies stay dead once they are dead for the sake of stability while in Alpha. This shows as on a server of just three people i saw one zombie in three hours and i went to every built up area possible. I then left and tried a more populated server and didnt see any.

Most builings i went into had possibly two to three rooms when from the outside they looked multi story four bedroom houses. Bit dissapointing there. i didnt really find that much i could interact with to be honest.

Now i understand this is an Alpha game, but i really found my first six hours boring. nothing to do other than walk around empty buildings and search for water and food. Most items i found i couldnt interact with either.

The idea of the game hasnt lived up to what i thought it would be to be honest. its more of a scavenging game than a zombie apocalypse at the moment. Stay away if you are going to get frustrated with Aplha builds. this is slow and boring at the moment. If you want to help them turn this into a better game then by all means join and help.

Bandits wanted my clothes. Walked away naked but alive.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Been to eight towns now and explored every house. Upstairs always seems to be a dead area in that you cant even open the doors...it's just a hallway with door textures. in those eight towns i found a t shirt, three cans of food and a shovel. Cant open the cans at all and spent an hour searching for something to open it with. I am now starving.

Found a zombie and attacked it with my shovel, couldnt really tell if i was hitting it at all, but it ebentually fell.

The zombie made me bleed so i tried to sit and rip my shirt for bandages but when right clicking it wouldnt even give me the option. so it was a case of just sit there until i eventually died lol.

i have played many Betas before, even going back to Vanguard. And i a make sure i take that into consideration, but this is my first Alpha and i have to admit i wasnt ready for how early this is in production. There is really nothing to do! most content is to look at and cant be interacted with. there are hardly any zombies around, which i understand why, but surely they should just slow down respaws or something as there is just not anything to play other than run around looking for food.

Am i missing something here? i am playing the stand alone version from steam but the videos i see seem to have much more to do. if there are mods out there that are much more advanced... then why didnt they start with that engine and add to it?

i just cant understand why there is so little in this game.

Please bear in mind that this is my first Alpha stage game ever and i really wasnt expecting a game this early into development after watching the videos and hearing people talk about it.

As for myself if you want a great zombie experience Infestation ( aka WarZ) Is the best game outthere. The standalone of dayZ is a big step back from what it used to be. Dont get me wrong, the graphic are good, and the inventory mechanic have improved, but pretty much everything else is a step back and its even worst compare to the actual infestation. DayZ have the potential to be a really good zombie game, but we will need to wait at least 3-4 month before the game start to get good. Actually there is simply too much bugs, lack of implementation to be considered a good games. Its still an Alpha, and it need to be consider as one.

Interesting... I played about 6 hours earlier this morning too.

I spent the first 30 minutes running for my life from zombies trying to find water, a backpack, and an axe.  I then spent the next hour looting my way through the middle of the map towards an airfield... Got all sorts of stuff like food, compass, ammo,  clothes, med supplies, weapon mods, Etc.

Then I got to the airfield and found a bunch of camo, a hunting backpack, a ballistics helm, and a magnum.

I then ran into a guy with a mosin who took a pot shot at me.  I ducked in the a bush and flanked him by hiding in the trees and rolling through high grass and was able to kill him and loot him.

I then ran into another guy with a shotty, and was able to outmaneuver him and kill him.  Took his shotty and ammo and used a hacksaw to make a sawed off and stuck it in my backpack.

I then ran into a fresh spawn and traded him my axe and a full canteen for his can opener and wished him well.

I then met up with a friend in electro and we had a shoot out with 2 other guys who were sniping.  After looting them, I had to go to work

maybe we're playing different games, cause I had a god damn blast

The game has some serious issues, maybe they will sort it out but i don't think so. Movement is clunky and interaction with the world is very odd.

The game is good though, will be better after some time.

Don't buy it right now, its not worth it. Wait for it to be at least in beta or close to release. I regret buying it so early.

Draemos.

Maybe we are playing different mods or something? i am playing the stand alone game of steam.

I have been on for anoher three hours tonight and here is what has happened. Started next to a building. went in and found a helmet and a shovel. It was dark so i couldnt do too much it is tedious in the dark.... scary but tedious. Went and sat in a corner and went and made tea while waiting for it to get light. an hour later im still waiting as all i have is a torch. Two hours, still black outside. Wondering if day/night cycles are real time now? three houres....ye you guessed it STILL DARK!

Think im gonna give it one more go tomorrow and if its the same then i may just give up for three or four months.

it's a deathmatch on a big map with zombies and hunger tacked on.  if you like that sort of thing,  you might like it.

I think the prostitute mod corrupted your game files man. -elhefen

Telil you need to pay attention to what server you join. You probably joined a 24/7 night server. The servers that are the most fun are the 40 man 24/7 Day servers.

IF you are going to play this game in Alpha you need to stay by the coast and go West. That is where all the action is. Electro is always popping with people.

Ahh thank you friend. i was thinking i am doing something wrong to be honest, didnt realise there were perma night servers. Have spent about four hours nowe in the dark haha!.

Ill go change my server and try again.

One thing i will say is that although not much has happened so far, i keep trying?

Take your battery and drag it to your flashlight, you spawned with both.

Or just join a server where it's daytime, the time of each server is listed in the server select list. Yes, the day night cycle follows a full timescale.

Maybe you should watch a beginners video to get you started on the right path.

Appologies.

I really didnt realise there were 24/7 night time servers and i was playing on one. I worked out the flashlight battery thing but then realised i couldnt fight zombies in the dark as i could only hold my torch or my shovel.

Anyways i did give it another go and am continuing with it for the moment. I still think the controls/UI are bad.... i mean really bad. But the world looks great and i do love exploration. I am hoping as the flesh it out we get more access to buildings. I hate to see a two story building that from the outside look to have around eight rooms to find i can only go into three of them. But hoping that is just Alpha. Same goes for items. i see a bottle on the floor? i want to use it for water. when i find its not an object but just a 2d picture it spoils the immersion a bit.

Still having trouble with the UI in the fact that one minute i can click on my shirt and rip it into strips, the next time i am bleeding i dont have that option? Again hoping this is all just Alpha.

I am persistent if nothing else and will keep going, i paid money for it lol. But i would suggest that people be open with the game as if not a lot of people may get stung here and that will be a detrement to the game. This is Alpha! not Beta!. Beta is a working game. Alpha is nowhere near that stage so dont join if you are expecting a 50% working game. This is more like 25%. The game engine is in and you can run around and explore and fight, but it is buggy and it is slow, verryy verrry slow. You are not going to be pvping for hours or fighting of zombies. And at the start when you dont have any weapons other than melee....the combat is a throwback to Megadrive games, bad Megadrive games. It looks better when you get ranged weaponary though and this is what i am working towards.

To the OP: Yesterday I fired up the game saying I would spend 5 minutes tweaking the settings as I do not have time currently to play it (got two nasty exams coming up with more coming later but more evenly spaced)... spent 45 minutes in the end just running around and getting used to the controls before dying to a zombie and deciding it was worth the 24 euros <3.

Spend hour/hours finding a good weapon, then run around for ages hoping to meet another player to kill. Not my idea of fun tbh. As it stands now it's only a 10 bucks value

My friend tried to get me into this game. I went to his house and watched him play for about an hour. First 30 minutes he ran around and found two different towns. He found a bit of food and a shovel in them. No zombies in 30 minutes. This is a zombie game right?

The second 30 minutes i told him to find something to do for God's sake. He found a player going inside a house. He goes into the house behind him and start wailing on him with the shovel. The other player had a shovel too. They began bashing on eachother inside this house for probably a good 3 full minutes. THREE WHOLE MINUTES of bashing on another player with the swing animation just going back and forth back and forth.....needless to say i'm glad i didn't buy this game lol. Yeah, yeah i get its alpha. But like the guy above me said this is only worth 10 dollars at the VERY most. Anything more than 10 dollars and i feel like this is just a way for the developers to source some funds while getting free testers.
