BBC News reported today of an incident in Second Life involving child abuse in the form of child pornography both real and virtual. Linden Lab, the makers of Second Life, says they will help identify the offending users and pass on details to prosecutors, and German authorities expect to catch the user fairly quickly.
Second Life is being investigated by German police following allegations that some members are trading child abuse images in the online world.
The investigation follows a report by a German TV news programme which uncovered the trading group and members who pay for sex with virtual children.
The police are now trying to identify the Second Life members involved.
Linden Lab, the creator of Second Life, said it would help identify users and pass on details to prosecutors.
The investigation was carried out by Nick Schader from the Report Mainz news programme who is also a member of Second Life.
Mr Schader was asked to pay to attend meetings where virtual and real child pornography was being shown.

CBC also reported the story CBC.
yeah pay a street walker like the rest of us!
Thats a guy, trust me.
thats just wrong ^^
Also please leave out the prejudice like to be found in former posts in this thread.
Someone needs to investigate the gorean to real life situation where vulnerable girls/women are coerced into meeting "nice" guys real life then get sold into the slavery markets.
Met with this situation a month ago I think, someone said that in a group chat. Checked the avatar, was verified. No idea what else LL done then (ban probably, but what else?). Now at least I can show something for others when points to SL only as a welcome place for perverts.
sick, sick, sick, sick.... Given Second Lifes potential it's so incredibly frustrating to see people use it in all the wrong ways. I hope LL comes down on these people hard and they truly do their best to help all policing agencies in getting these people.
Perverts is one thing, theres plenty of those everywhere, but predators that seek nothing more than to harm, that's an entirely different kind of scary.
Not suprising at all. They got all kinds of sickos playing that game.
To make every picture sent be approved would interfere with the shady, not quite illegal, forms of swinging and vitual adultry that are the bread and butter of that particular site/game though. They would lose most of the people that are there if they did that. No, I say make sure you have the FBI keep a good watch of it for this kind of sickness, but otherwise leave the pervs to themselves.
FREAKS! ;)
If Linden Labs can't keep child porn out of SL, then shut them down. Nobody's entertainment is worth allowing this sort of thing to continue.
Man I tried Second Life and Honestly I'm not an up tight person but I was absolutely shocked by what I say in that thing.
It is a Internet/Childporn/Pervert Haven for predators and those who share that mindset.
