I am first and foremost a Sci-Fi lover. But I would take WoW over EVE any day.

Do I hate it because I expected there to be actual game play? No.

Do I hate it because you have to role play? No.

Do I hate it because it is one big virtual shopping mall? OH MY GOD YES. IT'S 10% ROLE PLAY. 90% PEOPLE TRYING TO SELL YOU CRAP!

It is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It wasn't meant for JUST roleplay.

It was meant for those to build and sell their creations.

You went in with the wrong expectations, so the only one you can hate is yourself.

If you're looking for MMORPGs with action why are you playing SL... Oo

It was clearly indicated on the SL website that SL is a place that mimics real life; and in real life, just about everything revolves around making profit. Shopping is what makes SL fun for many people, including me.

The only two things I don't like about SL is that:

- There is minimal newcomer help, you have to figure out everything by yourself or by helpful people on forums; there is no technical support by the SL team unless you're a premium member (my problem ticket has been "working in progress" for over a month now)

- Server crashes are extremely frequent

this thread makes perfect sense,

thats why i quit Second Life too..

you cant do anything there, (except buy and buy)

you cant go anywhere except shops and laggy noob "inventions" FILLED WITH ADS

and you can't talk to anyone because theyr all trying to sell you something..

and thats NOT real life.. you can have a decent conversation and go somewhere without BUYING AND SELLING,

and in case you dont have a real life, some examples of the above are:

going to a museum, visiting a friend, going out to have a picnic in a park

second life is going to go down someday and someday soon

How do you know people never talk to friends? I happen to spend quality time with many of my friends just chatting, or shopping together. How do you know there aren't museums or picnics? The only difference is that your virtual character isn't actually "eating" the bread that you put in the picnic basket. LOL I don't have a real life?? You sound you don't have a real life by suggesting that. Do you have surveillance cameras over my house, or attached on me? If you didn't play enough and explore enough, I'd suggest you stop insulting both the game and others because it's making you look like a complete moron.

Suki you just skipped all the way to the anger step.  Why not relax and let people have their own views on the game.  Just because you happen to have interactions with friends on the game, that doesn't mean everyone does.  You have your opinion, they have theirs.  Leave it at that and you won't pop an aneurysm.

No I wasn't angry at the comment about the lack of socialization. I was angry at the fact that s/he indicated that "in case I don't have a life", just because I play Second Life.

My tone isn't accusatory until it got to that part. Sorry if I sounded like I was insulting his/her opinion.

Wow.  That's a first.  A sincere appology on these forums.  Shows a lot about your character as a poster.  No need to appologize, although I do appreciate the thoughtfullness behind.  He was wrong to say you don't have a life, but people like that are just trying to overcompensate for things they lack in their own life/self/body.  No need to get worked up over a statement from someone who doesn't know you IRL or even on these forums.  Posters like him are a dime a dozen.

SL isn't to bad if you have a few skills to bring into it.

I find it amazing the developers who have never even been in a fist fight, or designing fighting mechanics.

An unfortunate fact of Second Life is this... if you are not the type to look further than what is immediately present, it is most likely all you will see is people either trying to teach you how to sell and people trying to sell.

Love it or hate it, It is after all, a market driven system or at least, that is how it looks to an outside observer.

However! If you a small amount of patience, something (anything!) that holds any sort of interest to you and even a pinch of willingness to actually put forward a very small amount effort you will quickly find that the above is not true, nor is it fact. The truth and actually of the matter is that Second Life is a Community Driven Eco and one that can be very exciting and very fun to involve and loose yourself within.

Is it perfect? Absolutely not! The best way to look at Second Life, at least what I've found over the last couple of years, is as an on going project you get to be in on at any degree you feel comfortable.

Do you want to develop, create, build, socialize, market? It's all there.

Know this though. Second Life is not an experiment for the lazy or the easily bored, it does take some motivation and a desire to step out of comfort zones or at least a connection to trying something off the beaten path.

I just hate it when I go exploring areas to see if there is any thing interesting going on. I see ads every where and when I find an actual built world, I got the owners telling me to buy this or basically 'GTFO'. -.-

How can someone indicate, in case, of something? Whatever, quit bitchen just because someone made you realized you have a stupid hobbie thats gonna be gone soon.

(p.s. for the mod thats probably about to ban me, thats an opinion not a troll. I find second life stupid and theres nothing in the rules against that.)

Wohoho, that is simply not true.

You CAN do almost anything you want.

There are many many many places besides shops.

Of course you can talk to people, not everybody wants to sell you something...

And there are for example museums, quite a lot in fact, parks too, script a picnic and have fun.

Yes...selling, shoping is a big part of SL....much advertising and stuff. But, if you look around a bit, you can find so much more. Really.

whoa, did someone actually read my post? even better respond to it!

uh oh, one thing though. read it incorrectly and with anger towards the poster which presents bias to see only the bad sides

when i said "in case you dont have a life" it seems you ignored the "in case" part, and "in case" your wondering why i even wrote it, is because there ARE people with no lives and believe it or not, SL is not perfect and neither is life, look around once in a while and watch some news (dont try to respond saying "i watch news", i didnt say you dont)

i slightly agree with one of the defenders saying the SL world seems especially bad when your first starting, but the thing is, they should make a better start so more people will actually stay and explore the game further,

and to respond to another, yes i did look for museums and attractions to visit before quitting, but guess what i found, more than half of them were porno, the others had heavy ads on the walls so it all lagged heavy and hurt my eyes with flashy colors, and the only  place decent i found and went to, it was closed and isolated,

I dislike the performance. I have an awesome internet connection, and every place takes forever for all the objects to load.

LOL, boohoo you tried SL and got bored and you quit, and now you're accusing SL of being a stupid hobby? So you're not giving worthless judgments on how good a game is? Your comeback makes me laugh. And no that hobby is not going to be gone soon FYI. Oo

These are my thoughts and opinions about SL  posted on another thread possibly :).  SL is one big unhealthy messed up world.

I thought real life was screwed till I cked out SL.  IN SL you can fly but dont you dare to fly "over my land and home cause I will blast you to eternity" ....lol..so you can fly buy hardly anywhere cause most of the virtual world is occupied by people who own all the land  already and they all have barriers because they actually have to  to keep griefers out...so its just a no-fly zone.

You can go shopping provided you have "payment info" listed on your profile because most places even clubs and other non-shopping areas will not even talk to you or let you near their land if you have not provided the "Linden's" with payment info.

Hahahaha it becomes pathetic...the ADVERTISING..join..its free lol.  well sure if you want to join and just stand in one place cause you sure arn't going to go anywhere less you have "pmt info" listed on your profile.  You can go to sandboxes IF you like being blasted 2 land areas away, or wacked right where you stand, or just plain be griefed till you want to throw up.

NOW FOR THE BIG FINALE...you can go shopping "maybe" but when you do a search you will see that 99.999999999999999% of all places are steeped in extreme sexual content.

SO ok if that is what you really like, I for one think there are way too many people already in this world with messed up sexual attitudes and problems...if they land in SL they gonna go over the top with it.

FOR me and mine I say this "game" should be closed down...but again..these are my opinions and I have a right to them.  BTW peeps, it is also true..yup..that at one time SL had a security problem...some people's account info was compromised...I really think that was the last draw for me...It's just something else I do not need to worry about if I want to be in a "game".

i agree 100% percent,

like i try to search for places to go. and 70% lists as porn, and the other 20% has pornographic material of some kind, and it is all so disgusting! especially those animals or furries w.e they call them

I agree, there is WAY too much crap and filth in SL. I have to take monthly breaks from it every once in a while. Sometimes I wonder why I stick around (I've been there since 2004). So I completely understand what those of you who are disgusted with Second Life are trying to say! I wish the endless clubs, malls, and sex places would just go to hell.

HOWEVER

I then remember the GOOD things about SL. Live music from talented people, games, Supportforhealing island and their daily meetings, Discussions about things like the environment and the state of the real world today, apartments, and other things like that.

I remind myself to look beyond the dirt, and then I find some pretty amazing things in SL.

Here's my blog about SL's good side :)

Credit to those comments that say the game is over sexualized.  For that I blame either stupid US laws (I voted for the other guy!) or policies where Linden Labs doesn't want to pay a lawyer for the first case of its kind for various things (Google News will show you plenty of these.)

That said, there are tons of things to do in the game without spending a cent, ever.  Search the events, go to a social game type event (possibly some that pay out Linden Dollars without violating the gambling rules - free money!) and actually interact with some people.  You can get pretty far just making friends...

I played the game about a week rented a place, got bored and quit.

One thing that stuck out most for me was when i did a search all you saw was Strip club, free porn, buy a penis...

It seems most players in the game get mad at you when you do refer to it as a game. I have been told "ITS NOT A GAME ITS SECOND LIFE"

Basically 80% of the community wont have anything to do with you unless your able to help them earn Lindens. As a newbie i had to run around for hours before anyone would even respond to me. Of course there are some good players.

But basically I was running around in a world that took ages to load and doing things I could do in real life. Honestly open the door , in real life, whats real life? Its the place you are when your not in your second life...

If your going to waste your time on a MMO at least play one where everyone isn't trying to sell you sex constantly or trying to become your friend so they can mooch off you.

Honestly. The only thing good I've found in second life is to make pretty 3d model character portraits.

Like this one.

That's as far as Second Life goes for me.

If you don't like sex or constantly buying buying buying pixels: this game isn't for you. There is too little interaction other people and content. Not to mention the loading lag and resources required to just explore around.

I actually came to Second Life expecting to Role Play. It didn't even cater to that. Even Furcadia is better than this.

I tried Second Life some time ago for a couple of hours. What kinda crap is this? The only thing thats remotly fun is the ability to fly.

The performance is horrible

The playerbase is horrible (elitist arrogant wannabes)

The engine the game runs on was made by cavemen (constructive critisism)

pro tip: If you're making a game, atleast ATLEAST make sure the game engine is on par with Wolfenstein 3d or better.

edit: forgot to add.. the game is a "porn shop"
