I would expect graphics to be superior to most MMO's considering there is no combat in this game. Instead it looks like something we'd see 10 yrs ago

Because it's all player created, I've seen some pretty decent 3-D modeling in SL though. And  crafting is not really crafting in SL, it's actually modeling, and you could never script in SWG. There are some Universities in SL that have done some superb scripting and modeling in SL.

Couldn't agree more.  They're making a platform for users to create.  You make and experience what you want.  That's the draw.

Agreed. There needs to be a massive graphics overhaul.

Try the Windlight Client.

I was always complaining about SL looking like WoW with its dated graphics.  Then they came out with the Windlight Client.  MUCH better!!

http://release-candidate-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/Second_Life_1-20-8-88152_ReleaseCandidate_Setup.exe

It's no "Crysis", but pretty damn good for something that has to stream everything.

I must admit that its not for everyone.  Those with older systems may not benefit much.

But hey!  I pull in 30-60+ FPS most places, so I'm not complaining!!

 **EDIT**

For the post about someone's friend encountering "NAMBLA"?

I say "Bull".  Been there 4 yrs and have yet to see any sign of them being there.  Even if they were there, groups like that are quickly banned and the FBI notified of them.

Why would your friend go looking for NAMBLA anyways?

I hate second life because it doesn't give me the escapism I want.  If I wanted to check out girls in short skirts or signs saying "Obama 08" I can do that by taking a walk down the street.

lol yeah I didn't venture out much the first time I tried back in 06, found a mall to camp at with a pretty good rate but it was pretty damn boring.  Then I came back just this year an holy crap there are normal people out there that aren't weird or bots. Making some pretty good e-friends ect, it's nice to just BS with people from all over world, laugh at stuff ect.

The things you own, they end up owning you. - Tyler Durden

I hated it because whenever I got into an area with more than 10 people it seemed like the game lagged beyond expectation. Second Life is just not for me to begin with.

I haven't ever played the game and I don't know much about it. I did my best to read most of this thread, but I didn't finish it, to be honest.

I just thought the below was amusing. Carry on!

How do you know people never talk to friends? I happen to spend quality time with many of my friends just chatting, or shopping together.

Creepiest game I've ever played.  Creepy (and crappy) virtual world populated by creepy people.

I felt the need to take a shower after giving it a try back in the day.

You obviously haven't randomly wandered around on the internet.

My definition of an expert in any field is a person who knows enough about what's really going on to be scared.

I''m a statue baby, knock me out.

It bothers me that there are so many sites advertising SL as great graphics and excellent game play.

Uh... No, not really.

here is the official notes on the windlight upgrade client

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Windlight

again most of the content is user created so of course some things will look ridiculously bad but thenagain you have some 3D animators who can do marvelous things

as for gameplay, yeah i agree, since its not really a game, (though it can be used as one) its more of a business platform or a social interacting tool (virtual chat room)

Game hopping since 2003.

These games are all the same.

People that make money: Happy.

People that spend no money: Content.

People that spend money: Unhappy.

Actual game content: 0.

Get yourself a copy of a 3d animation suite and save yourself a fortune.... plus then you dont have to interact with paedophiles (Im not referring to every SL user, just the ones that made the news!).

My new years resolution: Stop pre-ordering vapoware.
