I keep seeing ppl ask how they can make money in SL...

A couple things...

I know personally several people that make their living in SL....  And I assure you, unless you plan to invest MONTHS UPON MONTHS of time to learn the in's and out's of SL, move along.

Friend number one:  A true master of codewriting.  Spent ALL his waking days in SL writing code for virtual casino games.... He made about $400-$500 bucks US DOLLARS a week.  He was constantly under the gun because hackers tried to exploit the gambling code so they could bilk him.  Stress beyond words.  Finally, after years of his effort, SL banned casinos and ALL HIS EFFORTS went into oblivion.

Friend number two:  I don't know her very well, but I know her boyfriend very well...  She is a clothing designer.  She has spent MONTHS UPON MONTHS  designing, marketing, selling, etc.  Clothes to sell in SL.  She makes approx $400 US a week according to my friend.  

Friends and rumors of friends:  Real estate.  Yes just like RL, you always HEAR about ppl making their living doing real estate, ...and I know some that do just that, but they keep their day jobs too.  But they spend alot up front also.  Just like RL.  So....unless you got MONEY and time to educate yourself, don't plan to get rich in SL this route either.....

How I, MYSELF, made money.....   

I used to dj.  It paid for me to afford my monthly paid account, and my cost of "living" in sl. lol.  best fun I ever had.  I've made life long friends, met my now living with me girlfriend, and....still enjoy the hell out of it. 

For those that think it's just a "sex game"...move along.  you're wrong, and you didn't take the time to get deep enough into it.  For those that say it's laggy, uhh..ya.  Name one other MMO where even the land you walk on was created by the player that owns it.  ... Every tree, every person, every single "prim" in the 3d realm was created, scripted, placed by users.... There is no greater depth in any other sand box...period.  And until computer power, and bandwidth can accomodate the truely uniqe structure of SL, it will lag.....most MMO's die with age, SL just keeps getting better because the users are the content providers.  Do a google search for "Second life in the news" and see.

and last...  Am I a fanboi?  Been in SL over 2 years now, but I log in only casually these days due to time of RL job.  Played SWG for 2 years before that.  Keep a WoW account active for my kids.

the way i see it he makes that little extra pocket money and (if he is like me) uses it to treat his GF to a nice dinner or a extranice B-day present.

There is a teen version of SL, but then I have no experience with it so can't comment on it.

just proving a point but yeah that was a little much hehe but every on eunderstood the idea behind it.

my lazy ass self has managed to withdraw 60 dollars more than I've put in.  That's just from one project(commisions over a year, it's propably be closer to 100 if I didn't rent or buy stuff).   After that project I haven't bothered to do anything for cash since it's not worth it, though I still do some hobby stuff since you can make stuff so fast and with so little work that It's a lot of fun.

eh, I've made about 800L in a few weeks of camping ect. Boring as hell but I just let it run in the background while I'm trolling forums.  :-P Still need like 1000L to buy what I need, but I'm not putting my credit card down for it, I'm done sinking RL money into online games for a while. This one is free if you don't mind hours of doing nothing.

camping for free lindens is a SLOW way to do it!!!!  lol.    Try crafting/building stuff.  try hosting club events, easy and plenty of clubs need hosts..or game hosting!! haha....or did they ban gaming of all forms that involved "gambling" ...i can't remember as I never was into gambling.    There are plenty of ways to get 3-500L in an hour as a club host....but camping out is still a way....lol.
