Seriously, 5-7 years is pretty good for a mmo. I have seen many shutting down within a year...

I wish they made this game with the same game engine used in Skyrim along with improved graphics, the gameplay would be a lot better.

All PVP is being restricted to Cyrodiil, this is why I don't wanna buy this game. I enjoy an MMO that has world pvp all over the world, not restricted to one region within the world. I enjoy pvp in a variety of envionrments, Tamriel is all grasslands/forests along with some snowey areas near Bruma. I hate a MMO which gives me restrictions on where I can do PVP.

So they are still sticking with this stupid concept? All PVP limited to Cyrodiil?

Alright, let me just make one thing clear. If you were to get your way, assuming that you have a powerful PC, it would probably not matter if the game had open world PvP because even though Skyrim's graphics weren't the best, they would still be too much to place onto one giant open world. Especially if you want graphical improvements.

Basically how it works is that if you design a game to be top of the lot it will take you a longer time. By the time you are halfway through, new technologies will have been released that are much better. Best way to improve graphics are by an overhaul when those options show themselves in 3-7 years.

But yes, I agree. I would like to have open world PvP. I would prefer if you were flagged for PvP upon entering another alliance's borders and unable to attack the people of that alliance unless they attack you first. Because it grants you freedom. What I wouldn't want is for people to gank some casual gamers doing innocent PvE, causing them to stop playing the game and denying TESO their income they need for future expansions.

Pure PvEers hate the flag system. Its to easy to force someone to flag.

For most MMO's I'd ask "How?". In this case, you've got a fair point. Accidently hitting someone whom stands right infront of a mob could happen. Especially since the "tab-targeting" seems to be a very light one of the sorts. I stand corrected.

Stelth and stand behind someone PvEing till AE hits you. Or make a alt in a low level area like Barrens in WoW and flag yourself and ask for buffs. While your friends outside of town kill anyone who leaves flagged. Had some friends in WoW who did that. Also if you stand on someone long enough, had people do it to me. You will get a tab mistake or a AE mistake and then you die. Some quests flag you and I have seen players camp areas like that and as I said pure PvEers hate that. Every new game system brings new ways to mess with PvP flagging and creative people find a way. Im fine with it but my wife gets flagged and she ports to town to wait it out no matter where or what we are doing. She hates PvP lol.

I had forgotten all about that stuff. I never had that problem though, as I only played as a rogue in WoW. But that was many a years ago.

Usually when I get too bothered by PvP I end up playing singleplayer games for awhile, but aye, excellent point. However I do believe that it adds depth to the game to be able to do stuff like that. In any case, I'll just trust that Matt Firor makes a proper MMO. DAoC still stands, even though I've never tried it, he might actually ace this one too.

Still, seamless world with flagged open world PvP (except in Cyrodiil) would be ideal for me, atleast.

Your not alone in that =-) Lots here wish the same. I myself still long for a real DAoC 3 faction war as its not been done right sinse DAoC.

We'll wait and see, no matter the case, I'll be enjoying my experience in TESO purely out of the lore and landscape alone.

I love all the hate that is going on about Teso. Let the gam come out before you bash. I guess any game that does not have wow in it's title will not be successful. Instead of hating why not hope for a good mmo.

Fail? 5-7 years? Is that really "failing"?

I think it will do just fine. TES have many many fans, and even those who don't try the game intially will eventually try it out. I really don't consider a game that last 7 years failing.

So far I am kinda excited about the PvE. They have lots of different kinds of PvP. Public quests, 2 and 4 man open world dungeons, Instance dungeons, lots of caves and ruins for solo play, mage guild to get rewarded for exploring, quest hubs and also quests to find in the world and if done right phased events could be a lot of fun.

Of course you can have specialist mmos for niche audiences like eve too.

That's the best part of all this. Eve is a fucking space MMO, but it is the only properly made sandbox of new millenia to this date, and thus it remains sucessful (You cannot call 500k subs and such long duration of existence a niche). The market segment (space mmo) is indeed niché, but come on EVE is doing better than every four out of five MMOs out there. Personally, I will never touch it. Space is something I don't care about, and I am sure I ain't the only one.

Now, imagine finally properly made fantasy sandbox, (Last time I laid my hands on one was UO).

Even better, screw TESO, let Interplay continue their survival based sandbox Fallout MMO.

Try EQ next or Archeage. 2 Sandbox MMOs coming out that look awesome.

Months, he meant months. 5-7 months. Which from the looks of things is pretty generous.

I think he meant weeks...or was it cheesemakers? Or perhaps he meant manufacturers of any dairy products?

f2p within 5 minutes..... tops.  mark my words, etc.

The End
---------------------------
i don't expect to like Darkfall, altho i may like it MORE than other MMOs. i know it is gonna have a very frustrating level of grind to it, even if its significantly less than most. waiting for a pure FAST action virtual world. dice rolling & character levels (even "skills") IN COMBAT should have never carried over from pencil & paper to a computer that can reasonably model 3D spaces and objects

I think 5-7 months would be a more accurate time frame to make that call.

^This.

Personally, I am an FFA Open world PvP fan. I would have loved this game to be a Shadowbane, with player's own guilds, sieges and player politics. The developer's decided to take the DAoC route, and I stated "Fine." DAoC was kind of fun as well. I'm still getting a rather large chunk of playable PvP area, the area isn't void for just PvP, it includes questing, crafting nodes, and all that.

Those who think this game's success will be limited because of 3way faction PvP or because of "SWTOR" need to think again.

I will try EQ next, but before to that, I'll be rolling TESO (unless for some unknown reason it turns out to be a massive flop, which I don't want to see). But to me Archeage isn't exactly a sandbox, not since they started restricting all the doable things in the game. Also the game removed player looting, so there's only risk in being criminal, how will that work out? Besides the pointless criminal system; The PvP will be limited to one contient as well.

Not to mention the awful graphics, oh I just couldn't handle the art style.

As for EQ Next, I am extremely reserved. I can handle PvP being restricted in a non-sand box MMO. But restricting PvP by any other means that safe zones (See EVE or Shadowbane which wasn't exactly a sandbox) will be the death of me.

Sandbox games usually go for millions of features, out of which half of them are not to be considered fun. The game's level of entertainement is usually supbar to other MMORPG's, just because the developers focused on having shit ton of things to do, but never did they take a step back to ask themselves if the features and stuff to do were actually fun.

As others have said, 5-7 years is a pretty good outcome. Not many games survive that long. Will it fail? Who knows, how about we wait til it gets to launch rather than looking at a crystal ball.

Read up on TESO first.

And SWToR "died" because it was so awfully shallow. Not only was it WoW in space but the classes were mirrored and other than the storyline the game was lacking. Other than that it was a great game in my opinion, and a beautiful one as well.
