Originally posted by ShakyMo In DAoC housing lets say, Albion Housing was a separate zone than the rest of Albion. There was this "entrance" to the left of Camelot where you entered this "zone" - was not part of mainland, it was a differente zone - you "ported". It was a... mmm... "entire landmass commonly instanced"... it wasnt on the Albion's map. It wasnt actually "anywhere". If you opened a map, there wasnt any "housing zone" on the Alb mainland. So the same can be done in TESO - just make an entrance to a "zone" right next to major towns that lead to a "housing zone"... just like in DAoC... there - done. Doesnt break anything its not purely instanced and you dont have to bother with "lore". Want a winning formula for the next great mmo - just copy everything in DAoC put a TESO skin and it will be the best mmo ever. |

And changes can be made even after launch. WoW's Cataclysm changed the whole sodding world. And you are to say to me that it is impossible to ever change a game? Your logic is ill. Whilst it is doubtful that they'd change it before launch, even if we do get enough signatures, those may help later on and be considered further into the games existance such as with expansions and so on. Sometimes I wonder how people can't think further ahead than their noses reach. |

Im ok with PvP being designated to 1 zone (Cyrodiil) as opposed to open world PvP. What Im not ok with is the rest of the world being split into 3 faction locked PvE areas. Games Played: Too Many |

Why would I want to sign that and wreck the game? ESO is shooting for the gold standard when it comes to PvP. PvPers have been begging for a modern take on DAoC forever and now ESO is giving us just that. Keeping this the way it is will give quests and story more meaning to the factions and create more faction pride. It wil also give TES fans who dont want to PvP an area where no player can attack them. Even the flaged for PvP system can be messed with to force people to be flagged when they dont want to be. Been MMOing for 13 years and I can write a very long posts on ways I have seen this happen. The current system is the best of both worlds and lets PvPers have their fun and PvEers dont ever get their toes stepped on. Its win win!!!!

I am sure zones, quests, story and dungeons have all been designed with one faction on one map and trying to change that will not happen at this point. My guess is stories and quests will have some mirroring from faction to faction. Maybe not all quests but I bet a lot. Opening up everything will just make the world shallower. Even if it’s not, my guess is the quests and story in each area are designed for that faction and even if you got to play it as another faction it would make no sense. This change being asked for is more than just flipping a switch and now everyone can run everywhere. I think it will take away from the game if they did and I bet anything that you would enjoy exploring the other maps more playing the faction it was designed for. |

As has been said Im sure countless times before, the developers were faced with this conundrum and reached what they felt was a happy medium, because with the challenge they are faced with you simply can not have it all. The vast majority who will know the brand are single player gamers, who also may love MMO's as the two are not mutually exclusive, but its safe to assume that the majority of initial interest in the game will be from those who love the single player versions, first. Single player gamers are used to a certain type of experience, one that can lend itself to an MMO if crafted properly. The problem is the war going on, an MMO needs to have some sort of conflict between players, at the very least to justify an end game or PVP if you intend to have it. As they have obviously decided to make PVP an intricate part of the game, along with a 3 way faction war, they could've simply made the world open to everyone and made it open world PVP. You cant have same factions running the same quests with no ability to attack them. Not in a TES game where you can attack anything anywhere. People would whinge a lot about that, and it kills immersion, and it really doesnt make any sense. So they could've gone the open world PVP route, but most MMO players even dont like PVP, now were chucking in players who mainly play single player games? Forget about it, thats a no decision, no open world PVP. The design choice they've came to is clearly the next logical step to cause this problem. I would've been happy to have open world PVP myself, good for me bad for you in the long run. When I say you Im talking to 90% of the people reading this. You wouldnt last in that world, and if you did you would suffer long and hard for it, and something tells me you dont want to suffer. Be thankful you got your three areas and one area to fight on your own terms, PVPers most definitely would not fight on your terms, thats what PVP is about, not instanced battlegrounds and duels. |

Why is this thread still even going? The last dev interview clearly showed that things aren't going to be as limited as people are saying.

it is never going to happen, and, therefore, all the arguments for and against are moot. They did not spend 5 years making this game and then decide to change faction lock at the last minute. Stop stamping your feet and crying and wait to see what we get. As I understand it, a character is only going to see 1/3 of the pve world and then it's pvp in Cyrodiil or roll an alt. Based on this, I am not going to play; however, stop hoping for something that is never going to happen. There will be no open world in this game. Get used to the idea or find something else to obsess about.

The problem behind being flagged after attacking a flagged opponent is simple its a dirty trolling trick used constantly in every game this is used it. I cast a AoE, your purposly run into that AoE so it flags me. Im now a lvl 10 facing down a Lvl 50 because you know of a little trick that forced me to get Flagged.
Because i can. |

Originally posted by Rayshe Or where you mess up and heal buff someone of the same faction by mistake thats flagged and now you are flagged as well. My wife hates PvP so much that when that happened in WoW she would take a 5 min break over walking outside of town lol. The current system really is the happy middle ground for PvPers and PvEers. |

Originally posted by Emeraq I'm with you. Seems the OP wants a Darkfall Total gankfeast PVP game where any enemy can go and gank any character even in their starting zones. this i don't want and will not sign up for. |

Even though they're using a megaserver, they probably can add a different server that allows people to zone into other sections. A megaserver doesn't restrict that. Just need another server that is not part of it. I'd like to see 2 alternative servers, 1 for pvp, 1 for only pve, like daoc, just to get the whiners out of the servers that will be populated. As much as people are complaining and clamoring for a server to go anywhere and gank people all day long, those were the least populated servers in daoc. |

I would definitely agree on being able to walk through enemy territories and of course PvP them. Restricting of course, the newbie zones.

I love these petitions. NO that is a lie. I thik they are lame. How about if you don't like something you don't buy it? Hmmmm is that such a odd concept? Seems to be. How about before you go asking for a game to be made how you want it you get out and learn to code and make what you want? I bet you could learn tons of interesting stuff while in CS school. Maybe even a bunch of technical "whys" that would answer many of the questions you have that lead to your stomping of feet and tanturm throwing at all these game companies.
I use "you", "your" as represenative hyperbole. |
