Originally posted by Chrisbox On the combat I half agree with you. Though I was never a huge fan of TES' combat style. Yet on everything else, gonna call you out here.
What about the size of the area wouldn't work in an MMO? The worlds of TES games are gigantic. MMO's need to have large worlds so people avoid boredom. I.e., look at the incredibly small world in TOR. That's one factor contributing to boredom. And what combat skills wouldn't work? Custom spells might not be workable, but the skills you see in TES games are pretty generic as far as RPG lore goes. There's also an idea (a rather patronizing one of the audience), that in order to appeal to a bigger audience, you have to "dumb things down." The entire series of TES was one in which it grew from pretty humble beginnings, and is now the biggest franchise not named Madden or Call of Duty. Even Skyrim, the one accused of being "dumbed down", for the most part wasn't. The removal of "classes" and some of the other skills I actually thought was a good idea. (Removing spell crafting, not so much.) Things don't need to be dumbed down. You need to make a compelling game which works. Though I think if Bethesda would just come out and say "Yes, TES VI is still being made, and future TES games will be made even alongside ESO", I think you will find a lot of the trepidation disappearing. |

Originally posted by KhinRunite Point caps are your friend. Whether or not you have a "level" system, you have a set amount of points, to distribute as you see fit. Still allows for a lot of customization. There, that is an example of a "sacrifice" you make in bringing TES into the MMO world. You don't gut everything that made it an Elder Scrolls game. |

Originally posted by Chrisbox Congrats on missing the entire point. TES = great series thanks to game design. TESO = Using a well known series to make money on a project that more than likely would not have created much interest without it. There is no reason for a fan to be happy about it, we can download a Skyrim multi-player mod and get something far better than what they are going to make because its the GAME WE LOVE...Online. TES = more than just a world and a story. “I hope we shall crush...in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country." ~Thomes Jefferson |

Originally posted by Chrisbox I been a fan of the serie since Daggerfall (still the best of them) and I disagree. If your exact mechanicsdon't work for a MMO the only solution you can think of is copying Everquest and Wow? Ok, maybe the game will be closer to DaoC than both of them but I still think ES deserves it´s own unique mechanics. What people now call Wow clone and before that called EQ copies have not worked so well the last few years. Sure, there is TOR but frankly do i think a SW MMO could have done better with the right mechanics. Remaking the same game over and over and just change the setting is a domed tactic (Dooomed). Elder scrolls should have no trinity combat and a very advanced character customization. Sure, I get that you can't have all skills at once but that doesn't mean that customization shouldn't still be very important. I will not write the game off as a failure just yet but it sure ain't looking good. |

There is very little creativity left in this world, everything now is mainstream and nobody tries to be different. zenimax have no balls and deserve no success. |
