With the fourth anniversary of Guild Wars just around the corner, the folks at GW have posted details about upcoming game content and improvements.

Zaishen Challenge Quests

Many are familiar with the Zaishen Challenge in the Battle Isles, and soon the Zaishen will extend their Challenge in the form of new quests. There will be three different types of Zaishen Challenge Quests: Mission, Bounty, and PvP.

  • Mission quests send you to replay storyline missions from each campaign.
  • Bounty quests dispatch you to kill boss monsters in dungeons, veteran missions, and explorable areas.
  • PvP quests challenge you to win battles in various PvP types.

Each day, a new quest of each type is available in the Great Temple of Balthazar. You can complete these Zaishen Challenge Quests any time you wish; however, you can only have three in your quest log at once. The most comprehensive strategy is to finish challenge quests the day you get them, so you free up space in your quest log for the next day's batch. Check back daily to take on the new Zaishen Challenge Quest experience, whether in relaxed solo runs or paired up with a friend or larger group for co-op play.

Wow, only 4 years?  Seems like it's been around much longer.

For a game that has 0 buzz anymore, grats to NCsoft for keeping it going.  People must still be playing.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Guild Wars. The game is amazingly well made.

Yeah, much of the updates is geared towards existing players now, it seems. Keeping their playerbase is more important than pulling in new ones for ArenaNet, especially now that no expansions/campaigns are planned for release, and with GW2 somewhere in the horizon.

Those still involved with Guild Wars (player wise) have known for a year that when Eye of the North came out,  that was pretty much it for massive new content till Guild Wars 2 comes out.  Guild Wars still has a fairly large playerbase and this new addition for the 4th anniversary is something we have been wanting for a long time.

And yes, much of what they are doing is geared to keepign their current playerbase.  Keetp in mind that GW2 is only a year away which is not long when you really think about it.  In todays economy, dumping money into advertising a 4 year old game is nto always feesable unless you are the size of Blizzard or Sony and even those companies have cut back tremendosuly.  Think about it, when was the last time you saw an ad for one of Sony's older games? And even the WoW TV ads are not as prominant as they were a year ago.

I applaud NCSoft for givng us longtime players this sort of great update during a time when  we all know resources are geared to finisining GW2, especially so soon after going through a massive restructuring and reorganization .

Also, GW2 is not the only title due to be released in the comming year.  AION 's north american release  is coming as well.  Expansions are in the works for Lineage II and City of Heroes/Villians and the long awaited Lineage III is under development but is I believe I read in the early stages.

I Look forward to this update

Edit- I just wanted to add..for anyone curious about what Online and PC games NCSoft currently operates or are in development, here is a link
