why would you wait to play Guild Wars 2?  Some of the skills you unlock / earn in the current Guild Wars will carry over to Guild Wars 2.

if you wait you'll be behind the curve

Not to mention.... you'll be doen with all the content in the game (including expansions) by the time GW2 is released anyway.... plus, besides buying the boxes... its free!

Plus, there is always the contention that just because the devs say it will be ready in 09... doesn't mean it will be ready in 09.  I personally don't see it happening til 2010 or 11 maybe.  Just get it now... you'll enjoy it.

As far as I know Devs haven't really picked a date for GW2 to be released. Last I heard they wanted to see Beta in late 2008 so that would make it 2009 but with no update on how the game is going. *shrug* It's hard to tell. GW is pretty quick and you might as well join it now and get used to it a bit because GW2 will continue some parts of the storyline, not much but a few.

Get Warhammer or Age of Conan instead and just play those while waiting for GW2.  Guild Wars prolly will not keep you entertained as long as those 2 games.

Played and enjoyed:
EQ2,DAOC,GW,WOW

Guild Wars is fun in itself

no reason to wait 1 or 2 years for a future game that may be much different

In Eye of the North they introduced the Hall of Monuments there you can add various things you've come across in your journey in Guild Wars. The items added to Hall of Monuments will then transfer over to GW2, or at least something like it. Arena Net have only said that you will get "something", it's so far not been said what this may be or more exactly how it will work.

1 year is also quite a lot time to enjoy Guild Wars. Remember that you play because it's fun not because you want to become the master of everything or equally.

Short answer for the lazy one: 1 year is a long time to enjoy a game (1/16th of my life actually). Also your achievements in game will transfer over to GW2, however it's so far not known exactly how this will work.

where does it say skills will carry over from GW1 and GW2? I always thought it was some titles, weapons/armors, minipets carry over thru the Hall of Monuments.

It doesn't. It's only armors, weapons, minipets and titles that carry over. See my post above.

Guild Wars now of course!!! GW 2 wont be out for a long time. Why wait when you can already play a great game with 3 campaigns and an expansion. Also no monthly fee's so it's not a massive money commitment. Cant go wrong with GW. Been playing for 2 years now and it's still on of the top 2 mmorpg's, and it aint even considered a REAL mmorpg hehe. Tons of fun, still really good graphics in my opinion and it can run on lower end systems. Just my opinion though.

Why start with Number 2 of something?   for the price and the amount of play you can get from Guild Wars1 (all of it, not just seperate parts), it wouldbe owrth getting even if gW2 was out in 3 months

I like airplane games.

I would go with the original Guild Wars (aka Prophecies) now, then Eyes of the North, then Guild Wars 2 in 2009. Factions and Nightfall are optional. Reason is because the story of Guild Wars 2 will pick up where Eyes of the North left off, and Eyes of the North picks up where Prophecies left off. By getting those three games, you'll be getting the main story. Or you can get everything eventually if you decide you really like Guild Wars, because all of the games tie together one way or another plus the new classes are awesome; that's what I would do if given the option.
