Just started playing. Hi to everyone.

I played a few games tonight, enough to get me about 2k faction, and in the midst of that I seem to have a huge problem with pets and assassins.

I was thinking if there was a profession I could merge with to be able to crowd control those pets or maybe have a chance at getting away from those damned assassins.

Other than that, im just looking for general advice on monks.

Anything is appreciated

What spec are you going for at the moment - Healing, Protection or Smiting? The key here is to choose a specific attribute and stick to using skills from only that attribute and the Divine Favor attribute if possible. Make sure you put your attribute points into those two attributes too.


There are many ways of countering certain builds. For example, the Protection magic enchantment called Protective Spirit will only allow you to have 10% of your health lost due to a single attack, giving you enough time to heal yourself before you're killed. Of course I can't explain everything here, so I advise you to head on over to www.pvxwiki.com for a great list of effective builds.

Remember that you'll need to play a little more before you'll have enough faction to unlock all of the skills you should require to be as effective as possible.

The easiest to not be the one targeted by assassins and other damage dealing classes is to be one yourself, since the most of them will go for the monks. My suggestions for finding good Monk builds is the PvXWiki and probably the great RA section there. My absolute favorite monk builds are the Resilient Boon Monk and WoH Shadow Monk.

Yeh IMO Monks are an insane class to play. Not a bad one mind you but being a monk in GW is nothing like I have ever seen in any other game till now. If you looking for thrills and spills that is certainly the class to play.

Personally I'm a fan of casters or ranged but that just personal preference. The Key to this entire game really is to learn everything if you can lol if thats possible! But knowing what graphic mean what spell is huge indeed IMO not to mention skills can be used in such a wide veriaty of ways you really need to study the skills you use to be sure they are doing what you expect.

Like he said the Protective Spirit is a good expl cause most prots use it.  (Prot = Protection Monk) I guess what you really have to decide is what role you want in the group then use the wiki's for now till you get used to a good chunk of spells. Then start fudging around you never know you may come up with the next new monk build.

Again I'll say being a Mo in GW is one of the sickest healing classes in mmo's to date IMO. I still have yet to master it though I typically don't play Mo's all that often. I just know that they are a hell of a lot of fun to play plenty of excitement and when you win at the end of the day you CAN say it was all because of you.

 

And in closeing when it comes to Keeping stuff off you and surviving that all comes with teamwork in the long run. My advice find a pvp oriented guild and learn with them if you can.

An example of this would be pinging the person thats on you so your team knows you got heavy pressure kiting through area effects and also even running around a warrior or something in hopes he criples or knocks him down just long enought for you to get the distance you need for a heal.

 This games battles depends on the team not the I always remember that. There is no twingk'ing and owning BG's thats for people who don't like to be chalenged.

Great info, thanks.

Also, ive been using Mo/Me and using the 50% slow hex to TRY to get friggin warriors from sittin in my face with a giant hammer, but not doin so well at the moment. Is it wise to do Mo/W for better survivability? Or perhaps another cross class?

I would like to be mostly specced into healing as opposed to smiting or protection, or maybe a nice balance of prot and healing.

To be honest, I find slowing spells to be a waste of a good skill slot. Make sure you stick to the back of your team and call out targets (hold in ctrl + hit the space bar). Your team will realise you're in trouble and can quickly target the person you called out, followed by kill them.

You should definitely go healing and protection, as it offers the best support. Using WoH and Patient Spirit should be sufficient healing, the rest of the skills used should be protection ones or survivability. If you're going for a warrior secondary you should avoid to spend too much skills into warrior attributes, often spending just a few ones is enough. My personal favorite skill for self-survivability is Return as it offers a easy escape and also a cripple allowing you to jump away from spikes and prepare for them, or just relieve pressure on you for a while.
