I've been reading a lot of posts about Snail USA in the strangest places outside of their customer service forums, or their whole forums for that matter, and I can't help but wonder if what I am hearing is actually true or if it has something to do with Gpotato releasing the exact same game under a different name soon?

What do you guys think?  Show of hands?

Snail has no one but themselves to blame for their increasingly negative reputation, as far as I'm concerned.

Snail USA is still going through some pretty serious growing pain, which isn't terribly unusual for a publisher to experience when making the transition to fully 3D MMORPGs.  There have been several serious problems caused by Snail, both pretty inexcusable.

However, they do seem to get a few things right - given enough time.  I'm not saying that the length of time it took them to reverse unwarranted bans is a sign of good service, but it shows more what they are working towards.

I've personally never had a problem with them.  I know several people that have, and while they did complain - several times - they are still playing the game happily.

Snail USA are run by rookies, but rookies that I think will eventually learn.  From a service perspective I wouldn't say they are any worse than the usual suspects - Nexon, Aeria, PW, Gpotato/Webzen.

I really like the game but have major problems with Snail.  Big enough problems that I won't be giving them anymore money until they make some major changes to their security and customer service.  I had no idea Gpotato was releasing the exact same game under a different name.  Is Gpotato's game going to have US servers?

gPotato and its parent company Gala net was recently purchased by Webzen. Age of Wulin gpotatoes name for their version was going to be eu servers only but who knows if Webzen changes that or not.

So I've spent the last month just logging in once a day and leveling my primary school's skill. I logged in yesterday and noticed I went from level 33 to level 11. At that point I just gave up, but can anyone tell me what happened?

It's really common for Chinese developers to sell their games to multiple publishers simultaneously.  With that said, I don't think that's the case for Age of Wushu.  Snail Game is also the developer for Age of Wushu and not just the publisher.  That means that they have the final say regarding every decision and there's no way they would destroy themselves by releasing multiple versions.  The Gpotato version is probably just for Europe like people have said.

Ha, glad to meet another EB fan - we seem to be a rare breed :p.

I'm also a big fan of Bill Hicks, so likewise, I love your sig  :). Man, if only he was still around. The world could use another Bill Hicks right about now.

Hmmm...could have something to do with the 2nd skill being released.  Honestly though, I have no idea.  But it is just another in what has become a string of MMO horror stories that I have been hearing that led me to posting what I did.

I mean seriously, given the time it takes to cultivate those skills, that's a really nasty bug!

It just seems kind of weird that, along with something like that, they could have been so careless in so many ways what with all the information available to warn them against it that's out there.  Not to talk about other websites or anything, but any self respecting developer that doesn't have a Gamasutra account shouldn't be in the business, and Post Mortem pretty much covers the "Don't let this happen to you" list in its entirety.

But then there are always those people who, instead of trying to play games in a straightforward fashion, always seem to exist for finding the exploit or shortcut.  In a lot of these cases, the bans, the account closures, the hacks, and even this (not really accusing you of anything, but not not accusing you cause I really don't know you), one has to wonder what the other half of the story might have been.  Were you using an account logger?  Did you spend the entire time under a waterfall? (even though that shouldn't be against the rules).  Was there anything that you can think of that might have been, upon review, considered an exploit?

And even if that is the case, are these guys really watching that game that closely?

But as you all have said, we are still playing it and loving it.  So that made me wonder if it might not have been one companies way of turning you off to the version but maybe not the whole game.

Just to explain my train of thought.

I can tell you now it's not because of the gpatato release that's comming out in EU that AoW in NA is getting a bad rap. It's all pretty much deserved for them to recieve all the bad flak they are getting (whatever they are getting). I've posted myself on their forums several times about the bad press they would recieve with these types of issues.

The Gpatato version will be the exact same as the one we have here in the US. They will have them playing on the same bug'd out beta client from 2 years ago that have tons of wholes in security and exploits.

Issues that are corrected or protected against in the newer version in CN.

Please don't refrain from taking many of the comments you see from folks as bearing some truth to them. Also there's no need to consider about them being some young company just coming up. The game is well established in CN boasting numbers in the sphere of World of Warcraft.

There also isn't the argument for game development since again they have a update client in CN that addresses many of the issues we are dealing over here that have already been patched over.

But w/e there won't be many people facedefending this game. BCBully is a fan of the game but he doesn't deny the problems the game has. Then you have some guys like Gdmne or something along those lines that tries to counter just about every post about the game that brings up a complaint. He however makes it seem as though he's never played the game for a prolonged period to even observe many of the arguments being put out there..

If you decide to play, use a non-attached CC and also try to avoid paying through Xsolla. I myself always used the 2nd payment option which charges directly to your bank and bypasses alot of the extra script they want to send you through with Xsolla (which seems to be one root for many of the account hacking issues).

Of course you could just play the game for free, which would be your best option if you MUST play the game, because that way you can play for free and avoid giving Snail Games US any money, they don't desreve it right now. Until they provide a proper client of the game or in turn the proper security measures to protect is customers.

The first part of your post made me laugh hard man, but this game is 2 years old. There's no transition for them to make other than localization in text as well the server time adjustment they made.

Everything else in this game that we are and will be experiencing as far as gameplay and Cashshop bling has already been in stone for the last 2 years.

This game is not something new, this publisher is not new to the game either. There's really not much growing pain leeway to give Snail Games on this I'm sorry. I'm sure that's not the purpose of your post but I just think that needed to be made clear.

His post is spot on. F U Snail(USA)!!@is almost a term of endearment.

The publisher Snail USA is very new and very small. The beast of a game Age of Wushu would be a bear to handle for the likes of blizzard, so many damn moving parts, let a lone for this little (9-10 people?) satellite Snail USA.  Have you noticed you've heard no complaints about the way the game itself runs, aside from latency?

The nine man office answers all the calls, emails, support tickets, billing  issues, and still manages to run GM events several times a week.

Nah they are far from perfect,  but they are not Adventure.

When I eat chocolate chip pie it just doesn't feel like chocolate chip cookies. The texture, the consistency, it's just not the same and this is disappointing.

The game is fun tho, to avoid those hater remarks. They just need to get on the right road for the support that this game needs. It could be really popular and in many ways I'm rooting for this game to be a big enough success that Western developers can take note of some of the broader aspects that make Age of Wushu so appealing..
