I think I might be missing something.  Do you always have to start off in a camp? For example I have made it to fetid pool - is there no way to tag it so you start there or go there fast, or the mudflats?  Or do you have to keep going thru the trraces first?  Would have asked in chat - but it is was so full of spam that I got indigestion.  (Tiny joke).  Just askin'.

Currently bored with MMO's.

As far as I could tell, it doesn't matter where you were when you logged off, you always start in the camp.

I had to turn off the global chat but it was nice to see the devs in there.  I felt bad for them based on all of the crap they were getting.  I'm a big D3 fan but I wouldn't bring up that game in the POE chat when the devs are there.  It's just low class.

I agree, and also turn off the chat.  Found out that you can fast travel via the waypoints so when I log back in I just have to go to the mudflats and then can zap to the prison, which at level 12 is hard for me.  my opinion.

In order to group with someone else you have to /invite them.  They have no games to join and select from.  The passive tree is just like FF, which is fine but it's just a passive tree.

On a whole I'd rate it just below Titan Quest in terms of fun factor and way behind TL and D3.  Their F2P is a selling point, but considering they compete against B2P games that's not a HUGE issue.  As of right now, if I could only choose between TL2 and POE I'd grab TL2 without a doubt.

It definitely feels like a step back for the genre.

Lvl 7? you clearly didn't give it a chance then, that takes like 10-15 mins. I've been playing it for a couple weeks now and I'm really enjoying it,much more than the D3 beta, but to each their own.

10-15 minutes?  I don't think so, certainly not this first time around.  The game should grab you in the beginning and this game doesn't.  I'm sure adding voice overs will help, but it is not a modern game and it lacks fun combat, polish and solid art direction.

Fun combat, yes indeed. I faced an Unqiue Diabloist (or however you spell it), around 4 or 5 elite (blue) skeletons and a bunch of other undead. My marauder couldn't handle that crap, cause of the resurrect mechanic from the Diabloist. Died a few times, invited two others and still we could't succeed there. Others in the chat said it was because we were used to Diablo 3 and PoE was much "harder". Well, if that was hard, PoE can just fuck off. After waiting for 15 minutes, resetted my instance and got this Diabloist *without* the stupid elites and then it was doable.

The whole encounter reminded me of facing a lightning enchanted, frost immune Unique in Diablo 2 on my Frost Mage. It's gambling, not hard. Now I haven't seen much of Diablo 3 of course, but from the demo, it seemed that they avoided these moronic situations. Felt more balanced and thus enjoyable to me.

As for the enjoyment, PoE started nice by drawing me in at the character selection with the voice over, but I found myself skipping over the quest texts, only looking up where to do them. The atmosphere in Diablo 3 was better in my opinion. The battle with the Skeleton King for example feels more memorable then any fight in PoE, because the Skeleton King is introduced early and you are given some clear goals before you can face him. PoE was more like: "Kill Brutus, he is in the next area. Then come back and I give you the next name on my hitlist". Bit more cut & dry.

All in all, PoE isn't bad by any standard, pretty good considering it's for free. I didn't like the bartering system though, but that could be me. Lastly, PoE is very zoomed in, or is it just me there?

It is zoomed in.  I like PoE over D3 for reasons other than play tho = F2P and it is multi player in the sense GW1 was.  I just cannot afford the price of D3 right now and the single player/co-op but got to be online to play does not sit well with me..  Those who do not mind that, well I hope you enjoy D3.  PoE seems to be enjoyable and more in my price range, lol.

No need for PoE my good man. Judging from your signiture, you're already engaged in two fine games. I still play Skyrim and Crusader Kings 2 has been a blast for me, albeit a bit on the easy side.

On topic, the general chat in PoE is a nice feature, but the amount of spamming going on was a nuisance. At release I hope that people will use the chat and respect eachother, not that mindless flaming/spamming/trolling what I've seen this weekend. More to do with the players then the game though, but implementing a feature and then giving the option to disable it, because players are annoying always pisses me off.

As far as the chat goes, I kept it turned off due to the distraction of it covering the trade boxes and half the screen. I did turn it on twice to ask questions and they were always answered correctly and quickly.. so that was a plus.  Hopefully the community will be better when it launches.  And you are right I have several good games to play - PoE answers my hack n slash needs in a manner that reminds me of Titan Quest and GW1.

I've been trying to tell as many people as I can about this game. It really is quite spectacular. Some of the level designs are massive and the skill system is great. I'm enjoying trying different classes and stuff. Very fun game.

Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.
