accually the best part about the charater development is you can change your class of charater at any point in time.  but its like the usual square charaters, from red mages, white, black, rogue, fighter... etc.  its very broad allowing you to spec your charater to certain levels in order to attain your desired char.

I was going to write about the abilities and stuff for each job, but I decided it was going to take way too long. If you have any questions about the jobs and their abilities just go ahead and ask me. You also forgot summoners, who can summon summons as well as elementals. Also, Dragoons can summon Wyverns for their two hour ability. The Wyverns have their own set of abilities that they can learn, and this can change with your sub job.

No, it would take WAAAAY too long to do. Ask me about a class and I'll tell you about it. It'll be shorter, easier posts that way - won't take half an hour (or more) to write. By the way, I just got the ranger job (finally!) and it rocks. I'm level 7 now - almost 8.

All the jobs except for thief are advanced jobs, meaning you must get level 30 in a basic job to be able to do the quest for a certain advanced job. However, just because they are called basic jobs doesn't mean they're not as good.

Thieves are very nimble and have good evasion. Their two hour ability is perfect evaision, which lasts for 30 seconds. They start out kinda weak but get stronger later. They can deal good damage with sneak attack and feint attack, which both give big damage to an enemy that is not targeting them. The only difference between the two is that feint attack gives more damage. You get sneak attack at level 15 and feint attack at level 25. Thieves also can steal at level 5, and at level 35 they can use pickpocket to steal gil. At level 25 they can use flee, which increases the party's speed so they can run if it gets too tough. At level 45 they can use hide, which makes it so enemies can't see you. The passive abilities all give the thief better evasion, some resistance to gravity, and also make a higher chance for drops and more gil. At level 55 they get the passive ability triple attack.

Bards are cool. They use instruments to play songs that support the party. I think they're really cool. From what I understand you can have two songs in effect at one time. Also, you do not use mana to play the songs. They have one ability, which is their two hour. It increases the effects of all songs. They get three passive abilities, which are all resistance to silence.

Ninjas are stealthy and quick. They get one ability, their two hour, in which they sacrifice themselves at no XP loss (so I understand) to deal massive amounts of damage to the enemy. This skill is for party play. At level 5 they get the passive ability stealth, at level 10 they get resist bind and (very cool) dual wield. They can also use Ninjitsu, which is just like magic, but they must use certain powders to use it. I think it's pretty cool.

Samurai is also something I really wanna try. Samurai are the TP masters. TP is tactical points, which increase whenever you hit an enemy and slightly when you get hit. You can they use a weapon skill, which deals more damage to the enemy. You can skill chain, or renkei, which means that certain skills can go together in a chain to give really big damage and special elemental effects. It's cool for party play. Anyway, their main ability gives them full TP for a period of time so that they can just keep using weapon skills to deal a huge amount of damage. I've heard that in this way they can actually skill chain with themselves! At level 5 they get demon circle, which increases the party's defense against demons. At level 15 they get third eye, which dodges the next attack and at level 30 they get silent concentration, which charges the TP gauge. At level 5 they get the passive ability resist bind, at level 10 they get store TP so that the TP gauge never goes down when they are resting, and at level 40 they get demon killer.

Now, ranger is my personal favorite. I just hit level 10 in ranger and, let me tell you, they deal a lot of damage. So far, I've been dealing more damage than the monks and warriors in my party that have other melee support jobs that raise their strength, and I'm a ranger/white mage. The rangers obviously use bow and arrow, or gun if they so choose (which I'm not sure I really like because they are not very accurate and slower than bow), to shoot from a ranged distance. Their two hour ability deals HUGE damage in one shot, and I don't think it ever misses. I've heard that it's triple the damage, but I've been giving more than triple damage with that skill. They also get sharpshot at level 1, which increases ranged accuracy for 30 seconds. It is a 5 min. ability. At level 5 you get a really cool ability called scan where you can scan the area and see where all the monsters are on your map and then track them. It's really cool for Notorious Monster hunting, or when you're hunting for a certain item. At level 10 you get scavenger, where you can scavenge in the area for items. A ranger I know found arrow wood logs a few times which you can use to make arrows. At level 20 you get camoflauge, which makes it so the enemy can't see you. You actually become invisible. You can't attack while camoflauged, though. A really really cool skill you get at level 30 is continuous shot, in which you just shoot a rain of arrows and keep shooting until you miss. At level 40 you get shadowsewing, which binds the enemy so that you can keep it at a distance to shoot. The passive abitlities are precaution, which makes it harder for the enemy to detect you, rapid shot, and a couple poision defenses and several ranged accuracy rises. Another thing to remember is that rangers will go through a lot of arrows. I started crafting my own so that I wouldn't have to buy any at all. I would suggest doing this. Or, if you see me in retail, I'll make them for you for free if you give me the materials. I could always use more materials to make more arrows.

Hey, those are some pretty interesting job summaries. Can you explain the Monk job like this?

Monks are pretty cool. They do hand-to-hand combat and equip various claws, etc. They are good at dodging and especially countering. Their two hour ability is called hundred punches. Hundred punches basically makes it so you keep punching the opponent, beating the holy hell out of it. Also, at level one, they get accumulate, which increases the power of their next attack. At 15 they get dodge, which increases their evasion. At 25 they get concentrate, which increases hit ratio, at level 35 they get chakra, which heals som HP, at level 41 they get energy protectile, pretty self explanitory, and at level 45 they get establish, which increases the chance of countering but decreases defense. They get martial arts four times (I'm not exactly sure what martial arts is), HP boosts three times, and counter at level 10 for their passive abilities

Red mages are truly jacks of a trades, masters of none. They can use black and white magic, but they cannot use the highest level spells. They are also pretty good at swordplay. I'd like to note that their AF armor is sweet. Anyway, their two hour skill, chainspell, eliminates casting time so they can keep casting over and over. Their other skill is convert. They switch their HP and their MP. They have many passive abilities: level 5, resist petrify, level 15, faster casting, level 20 magic attack up, level 25 magic defense up, level 30 resist petrify, level 40 magic attack up, level 45 magic defense up, level 50 resist petrify, and level 60 magic attack up.

Summoners are really cool. After I'm done with my ranger or, feel like I just wanna play two characters at once (since I probably won't ever be done with my ranger since he's going to be a master crafter) I'm going to be a summoner. Summoners get all their abilities at level 1 and are capable of using all the summons at level 1. However, in order to obtain a summon you must fight it. Summoners start out with Carbuncle. They can also summon elementals. For every three seconds a summon is out it takes 2 MP. Now, I could be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure I'm right: summoners don't have a two hour ability, each summon does and the summoner is able to make that summon use it. The other skills a summoner can use are attack, call, and release. The passive abilities are max MP up at level 10, resist slow at level 20, and auto MP regen at level 25 (I believe). To get a new summon you must accept the quest to fight it and then do so. The summons are extremely tough, though, and you would need a full party to fight them. When I do summoner I think I'll get my linkshell to help me get the summons so I can have a full alliance fighting them. That way each person won't have to be as high level and I can have the summons earlier. In order to receive the quest for summons you must have a lot of fame. The summons attainable are: Carbuncle, Ifrit, Garuda, Leviathan, Ramuh, Titan, and Shiva. Also, as you gain levels and experience, so do your summons and they learn new abilities as they gain levels.
