Yes, you do still de-level in ffxi. It is not as bad as it used to be though. They have increased the amount of xp you get back from a raise1 to 50% and at high levels you gain xp very fast in aht urghan. Also, if you place beds in your moghouse you can decrease the amount of xp you lose when you die. The better the bed the less xp you lose. Me personally, i welcome the death penalty it gives me a sense of fear when i die but it nots suitable for every game.

One thing  that will always be the same...  That hilarious de-level sound... there is nothing funnier :)

Oh god its not funny when it happens 3 times in a row though lol. But it is pretty funny should find a sound board with the sound and post it.

De leveling sucks, but it does add a fear to dying. lol  

I do NOT want to de level when i'm 75   :(   

Seeing someone delevel in a raid, because they were too lazy to grind 10k after 75 is hilarious.  Seeing them finish 1/2 naked because their gear is Lv75 requirement?  Priceless.
