8 years ago? Typo?
The Japanese release was the first, May 16th 2002. That's 6 years ago.

That's entirely possible. I was 16/17 when I started FFXI and I will be 23 this 19th, so I most likely miss added or something?

Wow, does this ever bring back memories. I played FFXI approximately a year and a half 8 years ago. FFXI was my first MMORPG and I will always have a certain love for it. Losing your MMO-virginity is something you don't forget.

8 years? The game has only been out for 6 and I've been playing 5 (NA PC release).

Alas, FFXI doesn't appear to have changed much from the past to present.

When was the last time you played? Cause a whole lot has changed.

As a Paladin of level 61 I spent upwards of 12 hours a day looking for a group and those groups rarely lasted for more than a hour.

Seriously? Tanks are so sought after it isn't funny. It always has been that way.

To make matters worse, people started creating static parties and alienated anyone who was not part of that static party. Unfortunately, creating static parties is perhaps the best way to level.

This is true that statics are the best way to level. But, it's not like everyone in the game separated into a static and stragglers were left. Statics a minority at best.

Other problems FFXI has is the large Japanese player-base that won't party with Americans because of the language barrier.

That's old news. The ones that still do that...well...they are still seeking for parties after I've been doing getting my exp.

And perhaps the biggest problems with FFXI and the best reasons not to return is the insanely expensive, impossible to buy items. 8 years ago if you wanted money you had to farm HMs for it. This lead to hours and hours of competition and disappointment. I remember farming Leaping Lizzy (Now her leaping boots are Soulbound and cannot be sold) for cash and how frustrating it was! The spawn time for her was ridiculous, but it was nowhere near that of the 24 hour spawns.

What? With the inflation, almost anything you did made you tons of gil. It just wasn't worth anything since the economy was inflated. There were tons of other ways to make gil. I rarely ever camped NM's for gil.

This leads to Gil-buying, which is sometimes the only way to buy items unless you're willing to put up with the frustration of HM farming.

Sorry, there is never an excuse for gil buying. Never. NM camping was not the only way to make gil back then and still isn't today.

Gil-buying is a full blown epidemic in FFXI and it causes the prices of items to sky rocket into such price ranges that normal people are forced to buy gil to compete; especially if you're a paladin class that depends on the best armor to tank. If it wasn't for the AF armor at 52-60 then I'd have gone insane.

They have the Special Task Force to deal with gil sellers now. The economy is almost back to what it was around NA PC release on Kujata. They have been doing a wonderful job and ban thousands of them each month and report on it every two months.

I do sorta miss FFXI but if someone offered to pay for my return indefinitely I would decline. FFXI is just too hardcore for me and I don't have the money nor patience to deal with the gil-sellers and party finding it takes to succeed.

To each their own. I've never really been in a rush with anything. Could always build your own parties and like I said, gil sellers have been cracked down on, hard.

Is it really necessary to pick at my entire post like that? And I already corrected myself about the whole date thing.

And keep in mind that I played the game a LONG time ago and haven't touched it since. I left shortly before the release of WoW back when EVERYONE was shouting about how WoW will kill FFXI in Juno(spelling), which sparked my interest in WoW and lead to my leaving of FFXI (I did NOT leave on good terms which also leads to some frustration with FFXI)

Even better you try to bash fact with speculation!  The NPD has access to more than the public ever gets to see!

Merging the servers is only something you do when your game is failing hard and have to keep the population full {ex Sony, and all their crap games}  FFXI is in the top 5 most played MMOs.

By your definition, FFXI must be crap, just like Sony's games, and failing hard right from the beginning. Because FFXI had at least 3 merges in the past.

Ixion, Typhon and Kirin are the names of the servers that was closed, and their populations were moved to Bismarck and Kujata.

They close three servers and then opened up 7 more. So uh, what? If anything, I'd say business would be booming if they opened up more new servers.  Also, those servers were closed when it was in Japan only.

I hope your not serious.

I came because I'm looking for a reason to return, although you have got to be the most unhelpful person I have ever met on these forums. The lack of information you have given me is amazing and the information you have given me has been your opinion and a wikipedia article. Their official website told me they help out about 1,400 industries. That's nothing, and that does not make this source any less reliable, your the one believing everything your told regardless of the source.

"since ur so dumb" I could go as far to attack your grammar but I won't. Esther-chan gave me more information and it was better presented then 10 of yours combined. "I never wanted to play FFXI, I just came to stir up trouble" your absolutely insane.

I suggest that everyone in the thread no ignore posts from the fool and let them be on their merry ignorant way.

If I had any position in these forums I would do all I could to make sure you could not become a part of these forums.

I hear ya. Things have changed though, a lot. WoW didn't kill it. They didn't do jack to it seeing how it's still doing as good as it always has. WoW never budged my interest in the least. I've still loved this game through thick and thin. It seems like you left around the time when inflation was pretty bad. I it seemed like a lot of people left during that time. A lot also came back.

I had the same problem with FFXI when I played it, when i first started back around 2005 or 2006, or so on my server, maybe even 2004, I never had these problems looking for a party, i could put my flag up at any level and wait 15 mins max and get a group, or find people at all times to level up with. FFXI is a great game all around but it has some issues, Im not sure about people who post here, if they have played on what server, and ect, and can validate the fact that there are plenty of people on the server, but there are factors that count on servers when it comes to a game where you are forced to group in just to kill monsters, you dont have to group, but otherwise its slow as hell and not worthit, unless you want to do a beast master, but you cant really solo up there really fast unlike a party.

As far as population goes, if the game has 3k people or more on the server at one time you have to calculate a few things to find out where the game stands.
#1 what Time Zone you are in, and how many people are on at what time, and ect.
#2 Over All population
#3 How many people are looking for a group, and classes
#4 The level Range
#5 How Many form each country sometimes it makes a difference, if they cant speak even a little english
#6 Just because one player is on at  3:00 PM CST for example, and one is on the server at 7:00PM or somewhere around there is a big issue, because the ones on at 3:00 PM may get a party while others will find it much more difficult.

#7 a mmorpg that takes over 15 MINS Real life time to find a group to play in does not deserve to be called a mmorpg espically when its over and over again repetative waiting for groups 30 mins 60 mins on, it doesnt matter the level's, in real mmorpg's even the newer ones coming out, you can find a group fast no matter what level, and now for the solutions.

#8

#1 Server merges could help
#2 Or it could be fixed so you can select which server you want to play on like some of the free mmorpg's on the market right now, and it could have a limit of how many people can go onto a server therfore making it much easier to get a group, and ect, maybe even divide servers labeing some for U.S Servers and out of country servers although not limiting, but just saying, and fix a simple update to friends list to so where your friends are and ect.
#3 FREE TO Play pay for only items you want to purcase (I would really hate that but lol)
#4 Solo for all classes on mobs, however its half the xp you get for killing one mob in a party, and doesnt eat up all your mana to kill a Decent Challenge, and stuff (Never Happen But)

As far as crafting items, basically its really hard at lower levels to get the materials you need sometimes to craft, unless your rich, and can craft like very fast to a high level, without buying GIL, supplying gear, and ect for yourself, and your jobs too, and also once you hit a certain level of crafting you have to go into higher and higher places to get it, therefore sometimes there are mobs there that kill you without parties you cant solo yet, and ect, so sometimes it can be dificult to play.

As far as gil sellers last time ive seen prices have been slashed on my server where I play, big times, and ect. however they would go down even more if gil sellers were gone for good.

Also at the end of this post I would like to say this.
Crafting is easy in the game, but sometimes getting mats is hard, and Yes I know about helpfull guildies, and members, and Friends who like to help you out sometimes level skills ect. However iti s rare to find these good type of guilds, most guilds, groups, whatever suck, because they all get high level,s and because 90% of the people are 70, others arent they say screw you to everyone else not ready for end game ect, personally I wouldnt have this kind of Linkshell/guild/group id put it all levels anyone helps out no matter level, although their choice, so sometimes getting mats is even harder.

Also I know beast masters maybe the best soloers in the game of ffxi, but not eveyone wants to play a beast master, or likes them, and IMHO every class should be able to solo as good as another, but ffxi is unbalanced this way, and forced on group play, thats what bring's on the issue of not finding group's, and ect.

I know this game isnt like world of warcraft, guildwars,or any other mmorpg that you can solo in, and since its not it maybe a bit harder, but Square Enix needs to fix the issue, or loose customers that simple, as far as finding a group in game after its fixed, or a good guild up to the players.

Bottom Line is Square Enix needs to fix this issue no matter what or loose its customers I havent played FFXI for about 3-4 months or so becuase of the issue, it has been going on on my server for like a year or more but i recently stopped paying the $20 for my account and mules, so.
