i heard it was a financial problem in another way......the games technology was to far ahead on the average gamer. So people could not play the game because they didn't had the hardware for it. WHich means less players. They found that out during beta. And cancelled it. So i think there is a chance and sure you can go ahead and say "ohh that ain't gonna work" but you can also (i think that's a better point of view)try and do something. |

They actually closed it because they only had 1 server which costs hell of alot. They needed atleast 40000+ people to pay for the game but there were not so many people so they closed it before they lost huge amounts of money. Project Wish is going to make a new Wish with another engine, so basically it's a whole new game. I don't know if it will keep the same "wish" feeling. I sure hope it will but those chances are small. But maybe it will be even better, who knows? |

actually the main aim of Project Wish is to get MR to re-start development.

Project Wish got 2 main objectives. 1. Contact MR and let them restart Wish. 2. Make a new Wish on a new engine. For now they haven't been succesful with plan 1 so they are now busy working on plan 2. |

No, actually plan 2 was to make a server emulator for it which I am not even sure is legal. Not a real good way to tell the developers you seriously support them and want them to restart development. - Fadeus Hawkwood - Fadeus

Their last IRC logs that were posted were talking about rendering engines, so this would be client side code. If they were only going to go the server emulator route, then they wouldn't be ever able to make any enhancements to the non-supported client. I believe they are now looking at doing a whole package deal, writing a MMORPG from scratch. Server and Client sides.

Atleast that was a very strong impression I got, I don't recall the actualy passage at the moment. So perhaps they realized their error and changed it. I don't know. - Fadeus Hawkwood - Fadeus

Silly question thought, but if they basically "remade" wish, as a completely non profit effort wouldnt it be completely out of date by the time it released if it ever did? Let alone not going into the fact that once you get new human minds into remaking something, they are going to want to "improve" upon it in the own idea of what is better. - Fadeus Hawkwood - Fadeus

They also pointed out that their source code relies heavily on several other commercial products, so to turn it into an open source project would not be possible anyway.

Look at Planeshift.. that game is an open source, non-profit game which is still rolling. Really over time, the only thing that becomes "out of date" is the graphics. On a game which has good mechanics, it will be just as good in 10 years from now as it is today. The problem is people always want better eye candy. The plus side is, if coded correctly, the graphics engine can be swapped out at a later time. You see that happeneing in the industry today with current games. I believe EQ and UO have done it and I think AC1 is planning an expansion in the very near future that will upgrade the graphics. Yes, everyone would want to "morph" the project into their own vision. That's why you need some sort of organization established with a plan. Mole is trying to get that laid down now so we'll see how it goes.

Sounds fine but it don't really sound like its about saving wish then at this point. Just another MMO coming up in the future. Time will tell though. - Fadeus Hawkwood - Fadeus
