War of Towers

When we looked at the minimum viable product plan for Early Enrollment we found it wasn't really the core of what Pathfinder Online is going to be.  Also we were worried the various groups that come out of the Land Rush with settlements wouldn't feel very victorious since settlement management wasn't scheduled to come online until many months of iteration.  Thus we've switched things around to bring a simplified settlement control and warfare system into the game at day one of Early Enrollment (with the more complex system coming in later).  We're calling this system the War of Towers.

This feature is so new its still in diapers and needs lots of naps.  We fully expect to tweak the rules and mechanics based on your feedback and the experience we have in Alpha Testing with various game systems.

Here's a blog post on the full world map representation:-

Introducing the Crusader Road

Golarion (World) > Inner Sea Region ("Continent") > The River Kingdoms (Region) > The Crusader Road (Locality)

The game map = The Crusader Road which will be fully that size at Open Enrollment in a few years:

>"This area is roughly 11 miles wide and 12 miles tall—about 133-4 square miles. Let me give you a little perspective on how large this place really is: Below is a similarly scaled map of Philadephia, PA—a city with an area of 134 square miles that supports a real-world population of more than 1.5 million people."

However, at Early Enrollment the map will be a portion of that size and increase in hexes over the months in line with steady population growth.

The map size is fairly important to the game in terms of player population density, number of groups, settlement sites (limited) and territory different size settlements need to control to be able to run and improve their infrastructure and of course fight over!

The point of the Towers is a sort of POI territory control for players to contest and channel their pvp focus before the Territory control settlement aspect of the design is fully up and running. It's a stop gap to focus player's pvp around strategy than mayhem...
