PlanetSide News - Player Ad Campaign Is Success

Posted by Craig McGregor on Jan 07, 2005  | 5 comments in our forums

Recently a group of hard-core Planetside players decided to start up their own "guerilla" marketing campaign after they felt that SOE was not doing enough advertising for their favorite MMORPG/MMOFPS game.  They created a nice movie highlighting the game and helped potential players obtain and install the free 7 day trial using a downloadable installer.  It is rumored that this player driver campaign has led to thousands of new players in the game and made a noticeable difference.

Nice work guys!

Yeah.. they did a really good job on the video. I'm sure SOE will steal it from them and run it on their website and on T.V. to get new subscribers. The game does look like it's improved, but it was still repetitive with very little rewards. I think that's the main reason most people left. No REAL reward for capturing bases and towers. My problem is, I couldn't sign into the game at all. It just sat there on the sign on screen. Couldn't get any help from SOE, so I quit and started playing CoH instead.

They did a good job on they video,   and i did notice a small increase in players (and more lag).  Unfortunately it seems to have attracted players who are more interested in spamming the chat channels with insults, and other assorted garbage (which seems to be typical of many of todays "gamers")

Right, like that's not how Planetside already was.

Ah well, good job for the players who did this. That really is kickass.
