seems like they are keeping a lid on the game... how do they expect to generate high numbers if they don't show the community?

F2P with a item shop / potential subscription option at release. Thats exactly how they plan to bring people in.   And they have been releasing some screenshots via twitter the last few weeks.

But I also imagine the game is still several months away from being released. I also imagine they dont want to advertise too many games at the exact same time competeing with each other. It's not smart to advertise your products and have them compete with each other at the same time.

it would be like Blizzard getting ready to release an expansion for WoW while also gearing up to release there next MMO a few months later.

Yea, im sure they will hype the shit out of the game once the release of DCUO dies down.

Also they're planning a beta in March, I would predict the proper unveiling of Planetside in Feb, followed by the beta shortly after in march. and then look at a june release, but i imagine it willbe pushed back to August with Sonys new strive to release quality products.

It's a low budget title so it wont have any advertising poured into it because it'll cost millions and it wont be worth it on a game with such a small budget. They'll just want to have a low risk project that'll make profit purely on Planetside fans and word of mouth.

PS:N will be on steam, it will get enough advertisment.

This really just sounds like you making crazy assumptions. From my understanding, and I don't believe this is widespread info, they have been working on the next planetside since about 2 years after the original launch. Plenty of monwy has been spent on it's production so low budget is probably not a term to throw around on it. From what I have been told their plan to within a couple months or so of release they plan to push it as much as possible to keep from letting it fade into the background after it's annoucement. It will be officially announceed, and then soon released. Will this strategy work and how hard will the marketing push be for that month or two? Who knows, that is what I have heard though.

I really don't think they would have started work on it before 2007.

Well I can't really say anything other then I have heard otherwise from a reliable source. However, that doesn't mean full blown developement has been going on since then. It may simply had a long pre production cycle.
