Hi-rez, a company dedicated to their projects and their project's development have under taken a tribes mmo and when you look at the frame work it sounds exactly like planetside...but with jetpacks.

Wait... so let me get this straight. Hi-Rez make Global Agenda, a game they touted as the spiritual successor to both Planet Side and Tribes. Global Agenda does OK, receives pretty good reviews and secures a loyal fanbase. Hi-Rez THEN announce ANOTHER MMO, which YET AGAIN is the spiritual successor to Tribes and Planet Side. Erm.... MY BRAIN HURTS. |

Originally posted by Infalible Mmm, idk exactly what they said but global agenda was obviously never tribes or planetside but more TF2 with jetpacks and a territory mode. This is sound much more like planetside with a tribes setting. |

Well, if they were claiming that Global Agenda was any kind of "successor" to Planetside then they were/are dead wrong.
if this second project is true and they are indeed making it,then we'll see about theyre second attempt. |

Originally posted by joe2119 They specifically stated whilst GA was in development that they were making a game inspired by both Tribes and Planetside. Should go and look at the pre-release interviews if you doubt that. EDIT: After looking over things, it appears they've actually purchased the Tribes franchise from Garage Games, which'll explain where they are coming from. This is quite interesting because Garage Games only recently acquired the rights to the franchise after Activision and Vivendi merged and dropped a load of titles from their library. It's also interesting because Garage Games suggested they had plans to relaunch Tribes 2 as a browser-based game using their InstantAction platform, as well as hinting at a new Tribes title. Perhaps InstantAction isn't actually that good after all. Not to happy to see Hi-Rez get their hands on Tribes to be perfectly honest. Global Agenda is an OK game but that's about it. It's highly doubtful that any of the old skool Tribes guys (like Flatliners) will be excited by this, or have any interest in it beyond, "oh that'll probably be shit." Think those that want a Tribes-like game will stick to Legions (if it ever reappears). |

I read the whole post..
it turns out that Hi-Rez has bought the Tribes franchise and is making what is called "Tribes Universe"
sounds very planetside like (which is awesome!)..3 factions, massive maps,100+ players battling it out, vehicles(air and land)...
im already salivating,I hope Hi-Rez pulls out a gem in this game!
here's the whole post from the Hi-Rez boards:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a brief update on what’s been happening at HiRez Studios. |

Originally posted by joe2119 Be excited by what exactly? A studio that produced a half-ass'd, shooter-esque MMO that didn't live up to any of the claims they made pre-release and had to change business models to stay afloat has just acquired the rights to a franchise that produced 2 of the greatest FPS titles of all time. Tribes + Hi-Rez = average tribes-esque MMO that a few thousand people will play but everyone else will alrgely shun as an unworthy success to the last games in the series (bar 3, which wasn't that good). I'm not trolling. I'm ACTUALLY looking at this situation by assessing the information we do have and comparing it to other information we do have. YOU are being a wild fanboy staring at the whole affair through rose tinted glasses, incapable of actually taking in anything outside of your fantastical idea of this awesome game that they are going to make. People really need to learn the difference between trolling and a healthy level of cynicism. If it's good I'll be pleasantly surprised. If it's not, I'll be sad but inevitably move on. I don't expect the former to occur, based on Global Agenda. |

Originally posted by Infalible lol, no. They were limited by their technology (which they admitted) and their game was exactly what they wanted it to be at it's core. I'll wear my rose tinted glasses all day because the fact is they are just as dedicated to their product today as they were during alpha and beta and have changed it several times (in major ways) to please their consumers. An act unheard of in the current day of MMO developers. Call it a slant all you want, but the fact is their goal is always to keep their consumers entertained and happy. I consider it trolling because you're trying to make an arguement over word play such as inspired and sucessor. |

it should be good, but after a time the jet pack type play and the sci fi setting gets a little numb for FPS. Pity it's not a fps MMO in open world based on Battlefield 3 and present day alter reality setting for the wars. Then again Battlefield 3 may be enough to not need a actual MMO fps as it's going to be so bloody good and far more advanced than console gaming with its dx11 bag of tricks and up to date Pc computer powerf and GPU's. |

Originally posted by joe2119 I'm sorry but I can't take you seriously. They were responsible for the technology they used. If they were limited by it, it was because they didn't design or build said technology properly. The fact that they've stated that means that - regardless of what the core is to them - the rest of the game didn't live up to their expectations. If it had, they wouldn't have commented on any of the limitations. And dedication to your fan base does not mean that they have accomplished anything note-worthy with Global Agenda, and it doesn't equal good design or content. When it released, it was regarded as a poor-to-average title. When they changed the payment model, it was still regarded as a poor-to-average title. Even now (and yes, I still dip in infrequently) the game is no where near the level it should be at after this much time in development. What they accomplished with Global Agenda was nothing more than damage limitation. And if they hadn't started listening to their fans at that point - which they didn't whilst it was in testing (and I was in testing) - they wouldn't have any fans now to speak of. So it's all been a bit of a joke at Hi-Rez for a while. Global Agenda is certainly a better game than it was, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that they can't make a good game either. From what I can tell of the company they never really wanted to make a game like Global Agenda in the first place. It seemed like something they got so far into that they lost interest but couldn't really do anything about it because they were a small studio that needed something to pay the bills. It ALWAYS appeared to me that they wanted to make a Tribes game. They inferred as much often enough. So now that they have the IP and clearly have some cash laying around doing nothing in particular with its time, PERHAPS they may make something of this. I'm not going to expect this of them because the last time I did that, they failed in their task. And you're twisting my posts to suit your own perspective. I used the words but my comments and observations are not and have never been based on them. I suggest you either reread my post or just admit that you are wilfully remaining ignorant. I'm not looking for an argument; everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However what people aren't entitled to is ignorance, unless they are happy to admit to that ignorance openly without resorting to underhandedness and wilful misinterpretation of what someone else is saying, just because they can't deal with it. |

Lets hope it will be better than global agenda cause I really cant stand that game.
<3 Planetside tho. |

Originally posted by Infalible K. Didn't bother reading any of this. Hi-rez has earned my support with their dedication to their consumer which they've proven time and time again. A fleeting aspect in the current MMO industry. I don't know what more you can ask for. You can't expect a game to be perfect from day one. No mmo has ever been. Hi-rez is a small budget company and given their resources they've accomplished amazing things. |

This is what this thread looks like to me.
Cheerful observation cold logic ignores logic more logic ignores logic more logic flat out says he ignored any logic gave up arguing with the ignorent still ignoring the logic somehow. Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats. |

Well...who cares what anyone says. I'm just gladded someone is willing to take it down from the shelf and dusting it off. Its been sitting there for a very long time. The last Dev to have touch the franchise didn't do justice to it! And to considered that the Dev had a good track record of producing a great game. I've always wanted an MMO of Tribes. Now that its actually coming true, I'm going to be the happiest school gal! |
