PlanetSide is an MMOFPS from Sony Online Entertainment that involves three warring factions in a battle for supremacy over the ten continents on the planet of Auraxis. Players can utilize a number of different weapons, vehicles, and combat roles to take the fight to their enemies, and earn experience to progress their characters.

Daybreak Games Company has announced that it is pulling the plug on PlanetSide. The server will be shutting down on July 1st at 4:00 pm Pacific / 7:00 pm Eastern. According to the team the closure is "due to evolving business needs and technical requirements". All present and former players are invited to give the game the send off it deserves in the coming weeks.
Sony Online Entertainment is inviting all former PlanetSide subscribers to come back for a tenth anniversary celebration. As an enticement, all paying players of the past will receive a complimentary six-month subscription.

PlanetSide Next Producer Andrew Sites has released an early copy of his inaugural letter to PlanetSide Universe. Sites introduces himself as coming to the team just over a month ago. He then reveals that the PSN team has been expanding and that several members from the original PlanetSide team have been brought back on board to create the next-gen PlanetSide Next.
Sony Online Entertainment's John Smedley has confirmed that the Planetside: Next team is expanding even in the face of over 200 layoffs and the closure of three of SOE's studios in Tucson, Denver and Seattle. This astonishing revelation was given to Planetside-Universe.com editors in a call to Mr. Smedley.
