Pirates Sailing Across the World Digg this article

By Keith Cross on Mar 28, 2008

Flying Lab Software has updated the Pirates of the Burning Sea website website with info on what's going on with the game worldwide.

Many of you already know about our UK, German and French launches, but you might not know what’s going on across the rest of the world. While we’re wrapping up 1.3 (pencils down tomorrow), and starting work on 1.4, our partners are spinning up for launches in their territories, so I thought I’d cover what’s going on.

Australia

Technically, we’ve already launched in Australia, with the game being available via digital download. But the real launch is just around the corner.

Australia has metered bandwidth. When you sign up with an ISP, you pay for a data rate and an amount of bandwidth (say, 7 gigabytes). You get your agreed upon data rate until you go over your bandwidth, at which point your data rate becomes very sloooooooow. This is a real problem for MMO players, who have to download big patches and are constantly using bandwidth when playing. Which means MMOs haven’t really taken off over there...
